Donald Herbert Van Eyll, age 96, longtime resident of
Chaska, MN, died peacefully on Sunday, August 10, 2025 at Benedictine Living Community in Shakopee, MN.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, 11:00 AM at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 218 West Second Street,
Chaska, MN, with Father Tony VanderLoop presiding. The visitation will be on Monday, August 25, 2025, 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Bertas Funeral Home, 200 West Third Street, Chaska. The inurnment will take place at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. In lieu of flowers or donations, please donate to
American Cancer Society or your special non-profit charity.
Donald was born on April 12, 1929 in
Chaska, MN to John and Regina (Dircks) Van Eyll, one of five children. He was baptized, confirmed and graduated from the parochial school at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Chaska. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1951-1953. On February 16, 1952, he married Joyce "Red" Marquardt at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Chaska. They had five children. Donald was employed at American Crystal Sugar in Chaska and then went on to work as custodian at Edina High School, Edina for over 20 years. He was a loyal member of the Waconia VFW, Chaska American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed bowling and softball in his younger years and also fishing, cribbage and bingo.
Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce "Red" (2023); his parents; daughter, Kathleen Pearson; son, Steven; son-in-law, Terry Garten; brother and sisters, Sylvester Van Eyll, Loretta (Joe) Straus, Harriet (Donald) Krautbauer; brother-in-law, Elmer Wagener; Joyce's siblings, Wallace Marquardt, Dwayne (Hope) Marquardt, Howard (Grace) Marquardt, Carlene (Myron) Latzke, Dennis and Wilhelmina Frisbie, Martin Luebke, Bernie Vanderlinde, Hank Hermann.
Survivors include his children, Connie (Kris) Krishnan of Plymouth, Shirley (Bernie) Kubiszewski of Jordan, Cindy Garten of Bloomington; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter; sister, Lucille Wagener of Waconia; sister-in-law, Laura Van Eyll of Young America; Joyce's siblings, Beverly (Robert) Drew of Janesville, WI, Darlene Luebke of Stevens Point, WI, Sharon Vanderlinde of St. Boni; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements are with the Bertas Funeral Home & Cremation Services of
Chaska, MN.
