Mark Guelig Obituary

Mark A. Guelig, 69, Oconto Falls, WI, formerly of Farmington, MN, died of unexpected health complications on March 4, 2025.

Mark grew up on a dairy farm in the township of Stiles, and was a graduate of the Lena High School Class of 1973. He thoroughly enjoyed keeping up with his classmates and attending class reunions.

Mark was a beloved partner to Trish Martin, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Equally as important, he was a key shenanigans instigator, a hunting partner that never revealed a favorite spot, a valued teammate in darts, softball, and bowling leagues, and the friend everyone knew they could count on during good and bad times. He perfected his infamous Puppy Pizza recipe, which he loved to serve to friends, family, and the neighbors Trish made him befriend. Mark met his lifetime partner, Trish Martin, in 2000. Trish and Mark spent many happy years together adopting cats, traveling on their Harley Davidson motorcycles, visiting family, and playing pranks on one another.

While an obituary will never fully capture Mark's love of family, friends, Harley Davidsons, guns, and recreational activities, all who knew Mark knew the infamous twinkle in his eye meant he was ready with a story and up for an adventure. He was always ready to relay his escapades and often had to be reminded that his revelries at Sturgis should not be shared when in company of minor children. Mark was incredibly proud that he had seen all 49 states on his bike and that he earned two Iron Butt certified rides in 2004 and 2009. Mark was a featured author and photographer in the May/June 2001 publication of the Hog Tales magazine, where he had the space to share his images of America, his journey with his friend and friend's son, and touching moments throughout their travels.

Survivors include his brothers Robert Guelig of Lena, Gary (Denise) Guelig of Stiles; his sister Judy Guelig of Fox Point; children Chelsea Martin and Ernest Martin both of Calilfornia; sisters-in-law Nancy Abellaneda and Marie Martin both of California; nieces and nephews Connie (Jeff Zeitler) Waschbisch of Pound, Ron Waschbisch of Oconto Falls, Marilyn (Scott Anderson) Waschbisch of Pulaski, Bob (Lisa) Waschbisch of Coleman, Amie (Richard) Tolbert of Stevens Point, Wendy (Joey) Guelig-Gmiterk of New Jersey, Kevin Guelig of Oconto Falls, Rebecca (Clint) Reed of Little Suamico, Janie (Jeremiah Kuss) Guelig of Lena; his best friend Mikey Mortin of Minnesota; beloved grandchildren Marcos Uribe, Evan Uribe, Adriana Martin, and Gwendollyn Martin all of California; as well as many great nieces and nephews.

Mark was preceded in death by his lifetime partner Patricia "Trish" Martin, father Arthur Guelig, mother Irene (LaRue) Guelig, sisters Marilyn Guelig and Jeanne Waschbisch, and brothers-in-law Frank Waschbisch and Alvan Bachtell.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls, WI. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM with Father Ben Johnson and Deacon Peter Gard officiating. Burial to follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Lena.

The family would like to thank the emergency response team as well as the staff at St. Clare Hospital for their compassion and dedication to patient care during this time.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials will be donated equally to the FFA chapters in Lena and Oconto Falls.
