Shirley Mae (Hammond) Hammond, age 99. After a long struggle with Alzheimers, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Arbor Lane Memory Care, Burnsville, MN on October 20, 2021.
Shirley was born July 20, 1922 in Jackson, Michigan, the only child of Iva and and G. Phillip Hammond, both deceased. She graduated from Western Michigan University and was a teacher before joining The National Bank of Jackson (Comerica). She was the first female bank officer in Michigan. Shirley was a member of many professional women's groups and very active in St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Jackson and Nativity Episcopal Church in Burnsville.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Robert Eugene Hammond in July, 1999. She is survived by her son Phillip (Mary) Hammond; 2 grandchildren: Amanda (Brett) Klotz and Matthew Hammond; 5 great-grandchildren: Shelby, Nick & Katie Klotz and Blake & Alexa Hammond; 1 great-great-grandchild: Carson Peine
A graveside service will be held on November 19, 2021 at 11:00am in the South Jackson Community Church Cemetery, Jackson, Michigan.
Shirley's only request is she be remembered in your prayers.
