Ocean Springs, Mississippi - Bernice "Meme" Beck, 97, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023 peacefully and quietly in her home with family at her side.
She was born on January 22, 1926 in Bolling, AL to Joseph and Ollie Pope of Robertsdale, AL. She worked in the local school cafeterias for many years and was famous for her delicious rolls and cinnamon rolls. She enjoyed "puttering" in her garden, feeding the birds and turtles, cooking, and spending time with family.
Meme was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace C. Beck; parents, Joe and Ollie Pope; her siblings; and granddaughter, Julie Hixenbaugh.
She is survived by her children, JoAnne Everhart of Longview, WA, Buddy Beck of McMinnville, OR, and Cathy Hattaway, and Sammy Beck of Ocean Springs, MS; grandchildren, Jennifer Nelson, Hannah Beck, Emily Everhart, and Patrick Travis; and great-grandchildren, Victorya Pace, Christion Hixenbaugh, Drake Hixenbaugh, and Patrick Travis.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in Bernice's name be made to the Church of Christ, 1116 Washington Avenue, Ocean Springs, MS 39564.

Mrs. Beck kept us full and happy while she worked at Keys School. the smell of her wonderful rolls baking would make anyone break their diet. A wonderful lady.
