Gary Edward Babel, age 62, and a resident of Saucier, died Sunday, November 20, 2005, in Gulfport. Mr. Babel was a native of New York, NY and a resident of the Gulf Coast for 29 years. He retired after 28 years in the U.S. Navy. He was a civilian contractor with J. A. Jones Construction, Inc. and was operations manager for the construction of embassies in Asia, Africa, Tanzania, and the Republic of Georgia.
Mr. Babel was preceded in death by his father, John Babel. Survivors include his wife, Donna Kay Babel, of Saucier; mother, Emma Louise Babel, of Oceanside, NY; daughters, Teberruz Babel Shepherd, of Chalmette, LA; and Zarafet Babel Burrell, of Wausau, WI; brothers, John Babel, of Dayton, Ohio; and Michael Babel, of Baldwin, NY; a sister, Deborah Szabaga, of Westbury, NY; and grandchildren, Ayshe Teberruz Shepherd, Renin Zarafet Shepherd, and Keegan Edward Burrell.
Visitation will be at Riemann Memorial Funeral Home, Hwy 49 North in Gulfport, on Friday, November 25, 2005, from 12:00 noon until the service at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Fords Creek Cemetery in Poplarville. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Assn., P.O. Box 638, Gulfport, MS 39502.
