George Kidd Obituary

George Richard Kidd

1944-2018

Ocean Springs

George Richard Kidd, age 74, of Ocean Springs, MS, beloved husband of Bonnie K. Kidd, died Wednesday, September 12, at home. He was born in Monroe, LA., to George S. Kidd and Ruth Kidd and spent his youth in Boise, ID. He graduated from MIT in Cambridge, MA. and earned an M.E. at the University of Massachusetts. He was a brilliant engineer who spent years in the aerospace industry, where he worked on the life-support system in the US astronauts' spacesuits, and later worked in the oil industry, manufacturing equipment for drilling rigs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his younger sister, Mary Ann Kidd Olsen.

He is survived by his devoted wife of thirty seven years, Bonnie; his sister, Elizabeth M. Kidd of Salem, VA; brothers-in-law, James Kates (Charla) of Niwot, CO., and Roger Kates of Ocean Springs. In addition, he is survived by his nieces and nephews, Joshua and Andrew Greene, Becca Marlatt, Jennifer Olsen-Bibbey, Jonathan Olsen and Becky and Miriam Kates.

George loved the outdoors and was an avid sailor, hunter, and fisherman. He was also a good-natured person who devoted much of his time in his retirement to helping others. He was a loving and devoted husband, uncomplaining even in his long, difficult illness. He suffered from myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disorder, for ten years. His medical treatment led to the development of cancer, which was his ultimate cause of death. He was the sweetest human being God has ever created. His wife, family and many friends will miss him dearly and remember his keen sense of humor and his storehouse of jokes. George was a member of the Springhill Avenue Temple, in Mobile, AL where a memorial plaque will commemorate his passing.

Graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi. RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd at Washington Ave, in West Jackson County is serving the family.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America at 355 Lexington Ave. 15th Floor, New York, NY 10017.

George was an inspiration to me. I was impressed with his knowledge and humor. Around 1973-1975 in North Hadley, MA, we shared part of a house with two other housemates, and I feel we both helped each other through our difficult times. Over the last few years I tried to reconnect with him, but with so many people named George Kidd showing up on the Internet, I was never sure if I should venture to connect with any of them. Now, reading his obituary, I see all the signs that this was "my" George Kidd. I am so sad I never got the chance to properly say hello and sadly say goodbye. I think I rarely solve a mechanical problem without thinking, "Now, how would George Kidd approach this?" He's ever in my thoughts.

George was an unbelievably intelligent man who mastered the art of joke telling. He talked with scholars and uneducated alike, without judgement. He was always genuinely interested in my welfare and I'll never forget his sincerity. Prayers for his family. Rest In Peace.
