Sonny Balius, 73, passed away September 20, 2015, with both of his daughters at his bedside.
Sonny was born in Biloxi, MS. He was a retired welder and a member of the United Plumber & Pipefitters Association. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #6 where he held position of Commander and the American Veterans Post #13 of Deland, Florida. He enjoyed dancing, boating and being outdoors. He cherished his three dogs Lucky, Bambi and Pepe'.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Elise Balius, Sr. and both sets of grandparents.
Sonny is survived by his three children, Andrea (David) McGrew of Meridian, MS (whom was lying beside him in his final hours holding his hand), Susan(Eddie) Halula of Latimer, MS, and Stephen D. Benton of Ormond Beach, FL; sisters Brenda(Harold) Barber of Franklinton, LA, whom Sonny resided with and Laura(Tad) Wilkens of Deland, FL; grandchildren Spencer Allen, Meagan Allen, Eden Benton and DJ McGrew; one great-granddaughter Willow Miller; several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Soar with the Eagles till we meet up again, Dad and Sonny. We will miss you.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Biloxi City Cemetery. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
