Vancleave, Mississippi - Jerry Dewayne Tapper, 48, of Vancleave, Mississippi passed away on September 24, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on August 7th, 1974, to Dawn (Rock) and Gerald M. Tapper Jr. He spent his childhood hunting, fishing, and exploring the woods behind his grandparents' house.
Upon graduating high school, Jerry set out to see the world serving his country in South Korea as part of the United States Army. He was a proud veteran and the Fourth of July was his favorite holiday.
After serving his country, Jerry came home where he worked in the hospitality industry. His military background, work ethic, and take-charge attitude made him a leader in his industry and a phenomenal Chef in the kitchen.
The best days of his life were spent right here along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He was an avid fisherman, boat captain, and sports fan. Jerry loved celebrating Mardi Gras and was often described as the "Life of the party."
Although his life was filled with fearless adventure, those experiences paled in comparison to the pure joy his children brought into his life. From coaching little league teams and rerigging fishing poles to playing pretend, Jerry found his place as a father. In his eyes, being a Dad was his greatest honor and accomplishment. Even as his battle became more difficult, he continued to speak of his love for his children and his desire for their success and well-being. Samantha, Trey, Austyn, and Lilylynn should always know, he loved you each more than he could ever put into words.
He was preceded in death by his Grandmother, Dorothy "Lynn" Swanson; Grandfather, Willis Joseph Rock; and his Mother, Dawn Marie Rock.
Jerry is survived by his children; his former wife and friend Karynlynn Batson; Grandfather, Karl Swanson; Father, Gerald (Patty) M. Tapper Jr; Siblings, Michael (Elizabeth) V. Dempsey; Maghan (Michael) N. Johnston; Gerald (Desiree) M. Tapper III; and Patrick A. Tapper; He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his step-father Benny Dempsey as well numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In keeping with his wishes, Jerry will be cremated, and his loved ones will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. A sunset memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Fort Maurepas City Park Ocean Springs, MS.
