Justice W. Joel Blass, age 95, of Pass Christian, passed away on October 23, 2012 in Pass Christian.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Long Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Pass Christian.

I remember Mr. Blass well inspite of my brain aneurysm in 05. I even know where Mize, Thompson & Blass was located in Gulfport. He was a GENTLEMAN & will be missed.

In the late 1990's I worked for Betsy Walker in Biloxi. She had many dealings with Judge Blass, and I had the opportunity to speak to him many times. I just wanted to offer my condolences for your family's loss. Judge Blass was always very kind and friendly to me, and I'm sorry he will no longer be here to offer his sage advice. May God bless and comfort the entire Blass family.

What an extraordinary human being and christain! I had the great privilege to serve as one of Joel's first law clerks at the MS Supreme Court and each day working with this man was like having my own top drawer teacher and mentor. I have benefited immeasurably - personally and professionally - from this man's guidance. In the months we shared at the court I learned much of him, his life, his faith, and committment to his community and the law. I was honored that he accompanied me and my family for my swearing in to the MS Bar when I passed the exams! The plague he gifted to me continues to hang on my office wall. Without question our common catholic faith gave us solid basis of connection which grew. I recall he would attend daily mass at St. Peters. His family can only be honored and proud of such a fine man and his well lived life. God Bless you all in this time of grief.
