John Thornburg Obituary

John E. Thornburg, Sr., 80, passed away November 23, 2010 in Gulfport.

Mr. Thornburg served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He also retired as an engineer from the Gulfport Fire Department after twenty years of loyal service.

He enjoyed fishing, football, and all sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman John Thornburg and Mary Ladnier Crumpler; his 1st wife, Betty Thornburg Page; his 2nd wife, Myrna Allen Thornburg; and his sister, Reitha Mae Lawson.

He is survived by his son, John Thornburg, Jr. of Gulfport, his daughters, Shelia Davis (Tim) of Kiln, Elizabeth Thornburg of Gulfport, Mary Gibbons (Brendan) of Ocean Springs, and Peggy Herring of Lumberton; his three grandchildren, Analese Gibbons of Ocean Springs, Kurt Ladner (Karen) of Greensboro, NC, and Michael Hoda, Jr. of Kiln; his two step granddaughters; seven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, November 28, 2010 at 2:00 pm, with visitation for family and friends one hour prior, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport.
