Louis Domonic Misko was born July 12, 1949 in Biloxi, Mississippi, the first son and second of four children to Peter and Gladys Misko. He is survived by his father Peter Misko, his sister Virtue Elizabeth and brother-in-law Pat Cox, sister Katherine and brother-in-law Milton Atchison, sister Jeanette and brother-in-law, Pat Leonard, nephews Mark Cox, Eric Atchison, John Del Nagro and niece Katie Atchison and by his wife Amy Del Nagro.

Louis spent his childhood on "Point Cadet" the thin strip of land that runs between the Gulf of Mexico and Biloxi Bay known for its' shrimp and oyster fishing and factories. Louis graduated from Biloxi Senior High School in 1967. On the advice of a friend, he took and passed the entrance exam that earned him an ROTC scholarship to Tulane University. He graduated from Tulane in 1972 with a Civil Engineering Degree and was then stationed with the Navy in San Diego to serve as an Officer in the Engine Room of the USS Blue Ridge. He was honorably discharged in 1976 but remained a Reservist until 1980.

Louis enjoyed a 23 year career in a civilian capacity, working for the Navy in San Diego. He was on the Engineering Team under the command of Capt. O'Donnell to build the Balboa Naval Hospital, a very challenging engineering design as it was built into a sleep canyon and terraced to hide away from Park Boulevard, being nearly invisible from the main street.

He was selected to head the South West Division of Base Closure (SouthWest Div) from 1990 - 2001. Basically he programmed himself and his 60 + personnel command into and then out of their jobs over that 10 year period and helped create the EPA and base closure process for the Navy during his tenure. The current redevelopment of the Broadway Pier and Embarcadero is based on the Entitlements he and staff created and got approved in the early 1990's.

Louis semi-retired in 2001, just weeks before purchasing a home and proposing to his wife Amy Del Nagro. He worked as a consultant and employee for the San Diego Unified School District to assess and sell excess school property from 201-2005. He formed his own consulting firm and worked until September 2013 with the Grossmont Unified School District.

He was a voracious reader and a brainiac, as demonstrated by his 115 linear feet of books and his past membership in Mensa. Louis loved small, fast sports cars and motorcycles. The smaller, the better. One would think driving around in a modified tuna can would be terrifying but not to Louis. He owned a red turbo charged first year Miata and a blue 10th Anniversary model. His last and most prized sports car was his red 1993 Acura NSX he nicknamed "Dinosan" after its close resemblance to the Dino by Ferrari and in honor of the Japanese car maker.

He was a man on many interests, who loved to talk. There was not an unexpressed opinion he held that he would not share with anyone and everyone. And nearly every dissertation started with the beginning of time. Although, he lost the title of most long winded to his father in law, Angelo Del Nagro over a tale of the Battle of Ansio that took one hour and fifteen minutes straight or the travel time from San Diego, CA to Tustin, CA.

Louis was close to his family and friends and helped whenever he saw a need or was asked. He was good to his pets, too. Trixie and Troubles still look for him. He was proud to be a "card carrying Libertarian" and lucky enough to marry a wife who shared his views.

He was well loved by many and will be sorely missed by us all.

A memorial service will be held at Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 675 Howard Ave., Biloxi, MS on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery.
