PETER JOERG HEUSER Age 67 of Biloxi MS. Born July 10, 1938 in Berlin Germany, Died Nov. 19th 2005. Preceded by his mother and father Pelagia and Hellmut Heuser, and first wife of 38 years Joyce V. (Butler) Heuser, and step-son USAF Sgt. Mark C. Denton. Survived by; wife of 6 years Dennie L. (Moretz) Heuser, sons Daniel J. McGuire, Michael S. Heuser, and daughters Susan J. Gaffney, and Kathy F. Westover, and step-sons, Matt, Bobby and Chris Denton. Pete had 22 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Immigrated to the United States in 1955. He cherished his US citizenship even up to his death.
Joined the United States Air Force where he became an Avionic & Communication-Navigation Systems Superintendent where he retired honorably after 20 years service.
Served one tour in Korea and two tours to Vietnam before being stationed at Patrick AFB Florida and Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio as a radio operator aboard the Airborne Range Instrumentation Aircraft (ARIA) supporting the Apollo Manned Moon Missions, two Skylab missions, and DOD missile launch operations. His duties on ARIA was to support the communications needs of the astronauts in near earth orbit.
He participated in 32 technical schools. Received 23 medals, awards and citations including the National Defense Service Meal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, NASA Apollo Achievement Award, Meritorious Service Medal, Commendation Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, Commendation Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Longevity Service Award with 4 oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters, and Navy Unit Citation, and others.
He then joined the US Naval Oceanographic Office where he served over 25 years and worked as a senior in-house electronic equipment specialist working on navigation and other data systems. He received the NAVOCEANO Goldsbourgh Award among others.
One of his most beloved passions was Ham radio. He participated in operating Military Affiliate Radio Systems in several sites around the world and attained a number of advanced licenses. In his later years he redefined his radio passion to help ensure that the gulf coast had much needed emergency radio communications during Katrina and several other previous hurricanes. He participated as a amateur HAM radio operator running the tower and repeater operations. His dedication to this effort helped thousands of people with emergency needs, and allowed Gulf Coast county officials and non-government organizations to operate and bring aid to Gulf Coast residents.
In honor or Pete's passion for Ham radio and it's contribution to the needs of the people of the Gulf Coast the family requests in the place of flowers to make a donation to the Mississippi Coast Amateur Radio Association at: (MCARA), P. O. Box 1725, Gulfport, MS 39501.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 29th at 1:00pm at the Pass Road Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi where friends may visit one hour before service time. Burial will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery with full military honors.
He will be sadly missed and forever loved.
