Jeanne Anderson Obituary
Jeanne Anderson of Rossmoor passed away peacefully on Monday, April 19th, 2021, surrounded by family and friends.
She grew up in Michigan as the only child of Marie and Leo Drawe. She was born in the same year as the great stock market crash of 1929 and would have celebrated her 92nd Birthday in May.
A year after graduating with a Psychology degree from Marygrove College in Detroit, she married Donald Anderson, a Civil Engineering student, who had joined the Air Force. They were married in Monterey, California July 21, 1951.
With Don's pursuit of a Bachelor's and Master's Degree, Jeanne moved her family from Texas to Florida to Indiana, and eventually to California where Don taught civil engineering at Loyola Marymount.
In 1965, Don took a job with an engineering consulting firm in Berkley, California. Jeanne and Don bought a new home in Walnut Creek, but soon after, Don realized he missed teaching. He had Jeanne move their now family of eight, to Ada, Ohio so he could teach at Ohio Northern University in 1968.
Ever patient and a faithful wife, Jeanne moved her family for the final time to Rossmoor in 1969 when Don again secured a teaching position with Loyola Marymount.
Jeanne was never settled anywhere long enough to use her degree professionally, but raising 6 children required that she use every bit of her training. She was always present, offering her children wise counsel regarding school choices, work and their personal life.
After her youngest son entered high school, Jeanne became a Teacher's Assistant with the Los Alamitos School district. After she retired, she volunteered at Casa Youth Shelter and later became a longtime volunteer with the Precious Life Shelter in Los Alamitos. She received her 20th Anniversary award in 2020. At the age of 91, she stopped working at the shelter due to COVID 19 shutdowns.
She is survived by her six children, their supportive spouses, 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Jeanne was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and is now re-united with Don, who died 20 years ago. This year, would have marked their 70th Wedding Anniversary.
Funeral services will be held at St. Hedwig on July 20th, at 2:00 PM
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Precious Life Shelter in her memory.
