Dorothy Suchomel Obituary

SUN PRAIRIE, WI - Dorothy Mae Suchomel, age 87, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025. Dorothy was born on June 9, 1938 in Sun Prairie, the daughter of Roman and Estella (Schuerell) Jesberger. She attended Sacred Hearts School and Sun Prairie High School, graduating with the Class of 1956. On June 28, 1958, she married the love of her life, Lyle Suchomel, at the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church. They were blessed with five children. After high school, Dorothy attended college at Madison Vocational and Adult School, receiving her LPN in 1958. She worked at the Sun Prairie Clinic until her first child arrived in 1959. After more than 25 years of being a homemaker, Dorothy started working again after her youngest son graduated from high school in 1987. She worked as a sales clerk at Ben Franklin in Sun Prairie. She later worked as a receptionist at the Holiday Inn in Madison where she retired in 2003. She was also a member of the Homemakers of America for over 60 years which included some of her dearest lifelong friends. Dorothy loved sewing, especially making quilts and potholders. Over the years, she made numerous quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, one winning an award at the local quilt show. She enjoyed taking classes, learning new techniques and always looked forward to getting together with her quilting buddies twice a month. She also loved knitting and donated many newborn hats to local hospitals. She enjoyed playing cards and loved spending time with her grandkids (watching them play sports, numerous orchestra concerts, camping trips and baking holiday cookies). In her retirement years, Dorothy and Lyle loved to travel with their RV. Together they enjoyed annual extended trips to Tucson, Arizona and visiting their out-of-state children and grandchildren. She was a dedicated Badger Football and Packer fan. The last time you saw her, most likely you heard her say... "Can I get a hug?" Dorothy is survived by her children, Brian (Meg Blaze) Suchomel of Highlands Ranch, CO, Curtis (Debbie) Suchomel of Simi Valley, CA, Denise Lane of Sun Prairie, WI, Amy Suchomel of Easton, PA and daughter-in-law Kirsten Ellis of Los Angeles, CA; her grandchildren, Hunter Lane, Dylan (Brittani) Cereoli, Logan Lane, Remington (Devan) Lane, Grace (Christian) Suchomel Hammer, Camryn Hart, Abby Suchomel and Lily Suchomel; great-grandchildren, Haven Cereoli and Noah Hammer; brother, Paul (Mary) Jesberger, sister-in-law Delores Jesberger and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, her son, Phillip; her parents; her sisters, Ann (Richard) King and Barbara Jesberger; and brothers, Ronald (Janet) Jesberger and Leo Jesberger. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October, 31, 2025 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2420 St. Albert's Drive in Sun Prairie. Father Michael Johnson will preside. There will be no Visitation. Burial will be in Sacred Hearts Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at The Colonial Club, 301 Blankenheim Lane, Sun Prairie from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
