Royal J. Quam

1935 - 2025

DeForest, WI - DEFOREST - Royal J. Quam, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Royal was born on August 12, 1935, in Lodi, WI to Arthur and Ida (Slinde) Quam. His early years were spent farming in Columbia County. Royal was a longtime resident of the DeForest area. He had a long "run" in trucking, followed by a second career, owning and operating Royal Compressed Air. Specializing in industrial compressor systems. Roy worked up until days before passing away, even making sales in the hospital. He was a member of Spring Prairie Lutheran Church. Royal enjoyed mechanics but his passion was antique cars. He had been involved in the Madison Area Horseless Carriage Club of America. Roy valued hard work and independence and instilled that strong work ethic in all of his children. He thought highly of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Royal is survived by children, Dean (Gloria), Faye (Tim) Heimerl, Kathlene (Tim) Degenhardt, Jean, and Aaron; grandchildren, Kasia, Stefani, Anna, Leah, Staci, Gretchen, Kelsey, Zach, and Zion; seven great grandchildren; daughter-in-law; Teri; sisters-in-law, Joanne and JoAnn; and long-time friend, Shirley Nickel. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Roy is preceded in death by son, Steven; siblings, Inez (Paul) Seibel, Carroll (Beatrice), Donald, and Philip.

A visitation will be held from 4:00PM until 7:00PM on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Ryan Funeral Home, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest. Visitation from 9:00AM until 11:00AM followed by the funeral service on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Spring Prairie Lutheran, W5448 County Highway DM, Keyser. Burial at Norway Grove Cemetery.
