Barbara Carpenter Obituary

CARPENTER Carpenter, Barbara S. (Skerry) of Ft. Lauderdale passed away Friday, July 5, 2002 after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Mrs. Carpenter was born in Providence, RI and attended Brown University where she met her husband, Bruce H. Carpenter, Jr. (deceased USAF Captain). Upon the death of her husband in 1967, Barbara moved to Ft. Lauderdale to raise her three children; Bruce H. (Linda) Carpenter III, Mark H. (Anna) Carpenter and Deborah (Brian) Carpenter-Toye. Barbara was employed for many years by the North Broward Hospital District in the emergency room at Broward General Medical Center. Barbara was a woman filled with laughter and courage who instilled in her children and everyone she met the gift of giving and living life each day to it's fullest. Besides her children, Barbara is survived by a sister Shirley (Robert) Murphy of Orlando; the grandchildren she loved and devoted her life to, Kelly Lynn, Lindsay, Bruce H., IV, Andrew, M. Hilton and several nieces and nephews. Barbara's family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Evelyn Watson and Bonnie Faust, who cared for her with dignity, love and kindness throughout her battle with Alzheimer's disease. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 11, 2002 at 4:00 pm in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1750 E. Oakland Park Blvd. Contributions may be made in her memory to Covenant Hospice, 2001 No. Palafax St., Pensacola, Fl 32501.

MRS."C" WAS A SECOND MOM TO ME AS I AM SURE TO MANY WHO KNEW HER. SHE HAD THAT SPECIAL GIFT TO MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF, YET, INSTILLED GUILT (AFTER A BLUNDER) TO STRIVE WITHIN TO BECOME A BETTER PERSON. SHE HAS BEEN MISSED FOR SOME TIME NOW AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE MISSED, AS SHE HAS GONE TO BE WITH HER LOVING HUSBAND IN HEAVEN. OUR PRAYS ARE WITH YOU; BRUCE, DEB AND MARK.

LOVE,

LLOYD & BARBARA DANIELSEN

PS. BARBARA WOULD LIKE TO SAY; "I NEVER KNEW MRS "C" WHEN SHE WAS EVERYONES SECOND MOM. DURING THE PAST 5 YEARS THAT I DID KNOW HER,I SAW THE SMILES AND LAUGHTER DURING MOMENTS POLISHING HER NAILS. SHE JUST SEEMED TO ENJOY THOSE TIMES, SO MUCH, THAT I CAN SEE HOW SPECIAL SHE WAS TO EVERYONE. SHE WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED."

"Mrs. Carpenter" was our first connection to Ft Lauderdale - and this helped to lead to 25 great years in Florida! Barbara opened her house to me and we shared many a cocktail hour in some pretty good conversation and debate. I will miss her and send my prayers to Bruce, Neb and Mark.

love, Hank

To Barbara - May you finally get some rest. Thank you for all the wonderful times at your house - Christmas on Las Olas, St. Patrick's Day, and hanging out with you, Deb and Otter. With all my love to Deb, Mark, Bruce and family.
