Benjamin C. Freeny

Ben Freeny, formerly of Oklahoma City passed away on Friday, December 26th, after a four year battle with a rare cancer - cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). Ben was born on December 19th 1958 in Ada, Oklahoma - the son of Ellis Freeny and June Merrick. He was raised in Oklahoma City with his two younger brothers John and Stuart. Ben attended Oklahoma State University where he was a member of the FIJI house and he worked as a certified public accountant for most of his career. Ben moved to Kansas City in 1995 and lived there with his partner Tom before moving to Lauderdale by the Sea in 2002. Ben was passionate about his orchids, his dalmatians and his town - where he was elected Hometown Hero in 2013 for his dedication and outstanding service to the community. Ben leaves behind his partner Tom Schager in addition to his brothers Stuart Freeny of Gunter, TX and his wife Kris and son Grant and John Freeny of Owasso, OK and his wife Laura and their children Trey, Addie and Maggie. Ben's stepmother - Diane Freeny of OKC was very near and dear to his heart. Ben had an impact on so many people making so many friends throughout his life, he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
