Brian Deuschle Obituary

Brian Coyne Deuschle February 23, 1935 - July 4, 2015 Our beloved father, passed away peacefully, July 4th, 2015, having bravely fought to overcome the debilitating effects of a severe medical malady suffered two years ago. He is survived by his three children; David, Paul, Jennifer, five grandchildren, and his brother Barry. Our Dad was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Basil and Mildred Deuschle. The family relocated to Bridgeport, Connecticut, shortly thereafter where he lived, as he told us, a very happy childhood surrounded by his loving Irish family; his beloved grandfather, Patrick Gabbett, and grandmother, Mary Coyne Gabbett, both from Ireland. Following in his beloved brother Cholly Deuschle's footsteps, he joined the Marine Corps. at the age of 17, rising to the rank of Sergeant in a very short time. It was while he was in the Marines that he decided to become a lawyer. He enrolled in the University of Miami with the G.I. Bill and completed his law degree at Boston University, receiving his J.D. in October of 1960. He came to Florida with his new bride, our beloved mother, Mary Ehrsam Deuschle, who he married in August of 1959, and started a solo practice in Fort Lauderdale that later became Spear Deuschle & Curran, P.A.. He was a voracious reader of philosophy, Nietzsche, Immanuel Kant, Kierkegaard. He lived his life by a very strict personal code. He went to work every day for 53 years and loved the law. He took great pride in being an attorney and it showed. An avid reader, sport fisherman, and writer of poems. He loved to cook, listen to music from the forties and Broadway plays. His legacy resides in his children, David, Paul and Jennifer, and continues in the lives of his "five female grandchildren", Maggie, Molly, Ashley, Elizabeth and Morgan, and in his impeccable record as an attorney. It is apropos that our father passed away on Independence Day, born in Philadelphia and having honorably served his country in the Korean War. But most of all, his favorite Aunt - Kath (Katherine Kinney Shea) was born on July 4, 1900. We know Dad is being greeted in heaven by his beloved parents, his brother Cholly, whom he has missed terribly over the past 25 years, and our Mom and brother, Kevin. Our hearts are truly broken. There will never be another like him. He lived his life to the fullest and gave us a life for which we are eternally grateful. He died on his terms. He was, is, a man of true grit. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday, July 9th, 2015 at Kraeer Funeral Home, 200 N. Federal Hwy, Pompano Bch, Florida with a service at 6:00 pm.

Dear Brian: Wishing you a very Merry 1st Christmas in Heaven. I'm sure you're having a wonderful time with all your loved ones and although Christmas is not the same this year without you, I find comfort knowing you are finally at peace -- no more pain or worry. I can hear you singing that Frankie Laine song Lucky Old Sun, and it makes me smile thinking of you with nothing to do but to roll around heaven all day. And though life will never be the same without you in it, I hold close all your words of wisdom and everything you taught me. Until we meet again, Sempre fi.

I just now learned of Brian's passing. I am sorry that I was unable to pay my respects at his funeral.
I first knew Brian as my father's personal friend and colleague. Later, when I entered the legal profession, I was honored to have professional contact with him. Brian was one of those rare men who just exuded strength of character, which was not diminished when he flashed that twinkle in his eye. You wanted to be a better person is his presence--I am a better person for having known him. Brian, say hey to my Pop up there.

Brian Deuschle "Was a force of nature to be reckoned with"....

He had a big impact on everyone he met but to me he was a good friend - colleague - attorney - client - and a mentor.
Whenever I went to him with a problem he not only offered solutions - he always also generously took the time to teach ways how I could solve the issues on my own.
He had an amazing command on the English language and could recite definitions as if reading straight from the dictionary. I never knew anyone else with as extensive a vocabulary!
He led by example and followed a strict code of conduct. There was strength in his words and demeanor and I never saw an issue that rattled him. The spirit of his teachings will live on as I follow my own path which has been guided and influenced by this wise gentleman. RIP my good friend.

Brian was one of the greatest lawyers and men I've ever worked with. He modeled integrity and professionalism.

He was bigger than life, with a tender heart.

Brian was a true mentor in my young lawyer days and taught me so much. I'll always value the positive impact he had on my life, both professionally and personally.

I worked for BCD, or the "Big Man" as we called him for a couple of years in the late 1980's. A true gentleman and an amazing attorney. Without a doubt, the smartest, and perhaps the most respected lawyer, I ever worked for. Watching BCD cross-examine an expert witness was a thing of beauty, oftentimes completely flipping the impact of their testimony, without the witness ever realizing it! A great man, a great guy, and a kind heart! Rest In Peace BCD!

I worked with (or for) Brian for four years. Brian was the most broadly knowledgable attorney that I have ever known. He had a tremendous amount of knowledge in a number of areas of civil law. While working for Brian, I also got to know, to some degree, his son Paul, who was a very nice young man when I knew him. Brian should be remembered as a man who had a strong value system and lived by it. I remember Brian as a good man with a tender core. Rest in peace.

That though the radiance which was once so bright be now forever taken from my sight. Though nothing can bring back the hour of splendor in the grass, glory in the flower. We will grieve not, rather find strength in what remains behind.(William Wordsworth)
Jennifer, may you, your family, and friends find comfort in knowing how much we all care and that we are thinking of you during this sad and difficult time.

Dear Jennifer, David and Paul;

You and your dad were for so many years like family to me. Brian was not only my first employer; he was my mentor, my father-figure, my protector and my best friend.

He taught me how to overcome many of life's difficult challenges when faced with despair; how to believe in myself regardless of whether others did. He took me by his hand and never let me go He will be immensely missed.

An amazing man who truly adored you all his children, grandchildren He asked me once to transcribe the below poem for the three of you:

MY FATHER'S HOUSE

There was a place of safety, where I could run and hide;
These were rooms of comfort, where my fears were set aside;

Fear was banished in this refuge
and with peace I did abide;

All the risks of life were far from my contemplation,
and all the love I ever needed came without reservation.

This structure of my youth gave me all my soul,
and set the course of my life's final goals;

These walls speak volumes of my Father's words of wisdom,
which through the years have given my mind its vision;

I will keep the spirit of my Father's House,
and pass it to my own;

For my children and the children of my children,
will bring my Father's House, home.
