Doris Gray Winterholler Marshall

Doris ("Dori") Gray Winterholler Marshall, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on September 8, 2021 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. at the age of 89. Born in East Chicago, Ind. Dori was the daughter of Joseph and Lydia Gray. Dori was preceded in death by her husband James Winterholler, second husband John Marshall, and daughter Deanna Lee Stella. She is survived by her daughter Dr. Dana Markham (Joseph); brother Joseph Gray (Laverene); sisters Dorothy Sindicich and Dolores Morris; stepchildren John Marshall (Joan), Lory Marshall Gross (James), and Ann Marshall Ingham (Fred); four grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Dori always looked fondly upon her time spent with family and friends in Michigan, golfing, and traveling the world. Dori attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. where she graduated with a degree in education. After graduation, she moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She taught for several years at the Old Davie School in Davie, Fla. and often shared stories about how much she enjoyed her time in the classroom with students. Dedicated as a permanent school building on May 10, 1918, Old Davie School was the first of its kind in the reclaimed lands of the Everglades. The building now houses the Old Davie School Historical Museum whose mission is to collect, preserve, interpret and educate people about the heritage, culture, and history of the Davie community and western Broward County, Fla. Services will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Shepherd by the Coast Church, 1901 E. Commercial Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Old Davie School Historical Museum or the American Cancer Society. Online condolences can be shared at edkalis.com.
