Edward Robinson Obituary
Robinson, The Reverend Edward Geoffrey of Boca Raton, FL, died of complications from liver cancer on May 9, 2010. He was 86 years old. Born in Belmont, Bolton, England on February 23, 1924, his parents immigrated to Wyoming in the United States when he was a young boy and he grew up on a working farm. He entered the United States Army on February 24, 1944 and served as a Medical Lab Technician. He was honorably discharged on May 8, 1946 having earned the European, Africa and Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, a Victory in Europe Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Following military service, he attended the University of Wyoming and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1950. Discerning a call to the priesthood of the Episcopal Church during his college years, he entered the ordination process in the Diocese of Wyoming and matriculated at The Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, VA, earning his Master of Divinity degree in 1953. He was ordained to the diaconate by the Bishop of Wyoming on June 13, 1953 and to the priesthood on December 9, 1953. Following ordination, he served as the vicar of three small churches in Wyoming - St. Andrew's in the Pines in Pinedale; St. John the Baptist in Big Piney and St. Hubert the Hunter in Bondurant - from 1953 - 1955. He served as the assistant to the rector at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Sheridan, WY from 1955 - 1961. Sensing that his vocation was as a hospital chaplain, Fr. Robinson served a chaplain residency at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston, TX from 1962 - 1964 and then accepted a call to be full-time Chaplain at Coler Memorial Hospital on Roosevelt Island in New York City where he served from 1964 until his retirement in 1989. Upon his retirement, he moved to South Florida and assisted at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Delray Beach. He was predeceased by his companion of 28 years, Leonard DelMonte and is survived by his brother Phillip Robinson and sister-in-law Elizabeth of Laramie, WY; nephew Jeffrey Robinson of Laramie, WY; niece Donna Lau and her husband Heinz of Harrington Park, NJ, niece Barbara Mercado of Largo, FL. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 14 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Delray Beach, The Right Reverend Calvin O. Schofield, Bishop of Southeast Florida (retired), officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church - 188 S. Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33444.
