Eunice Harvey Obituary

Dr. Eunice Cason Harvey 93, ended her earthly journey on Saturday, July15 at home surrounded by her family. Dr. Harvey is the youngest of nine. She was born in Wellborn, Suwannee County, FL on July 9, 1924 to Mary Blake Cason and Mancie Cason Sr. The family moved to Pompano Beach, Florida in 1924. Eunice attended the Pompano Colored School (now Blanche Ely High School) until the tenth grade finishing her last two years of high school at Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg, FL. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from Florida A & M College (FAMC) in 1949. She earned her Master's degree from Boston University in Administration and Supervision and her PhD from the University of Beverly Hills. She also holds an Honorary Doctorate from Trinity Theological Seminary of South Florida. Dr. Harvey was an educator for the Broward County School system for forty years and began her professional educational career at Blanche Ely as a teacher, dean of girls, and assistant principal under the tutelage of Principal Blanche Ely. She retired as an assistant principal at Deerfield High. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church for her entire life. She was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. since 1948, and a charter member for the Sigma Gamma Rho-Delta Upsilon Sigma Chapter in Broward County. Dr. Harvey was a community leader and activist. She was the co-sponsor on the naming of Third Avenue, Ester Rolle Avenue in Pompano. Dr. Harvey received numerous proclamations, appreciations, awards, accolades and honors. She was most recently honored by the Broward Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and the City of Lauderdale Lakes for her community involvement and civic activities. Dr. Harvey authored the book Florida, State of My Birth, Pompano Beach, My Hometown: A Pictorial Storybook. She was a frequently requested speaker and presenter. She was married to the late Joe Harvey. She is survived by three children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchild, a brother, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a well-known historian for Pompano Beach and the Broward County Community. The wake and funeral will be held at Mount Calvary Baptist Church 800 NW 8th Avenue, Pompano Beach, Florida 33060. Wake: Friday, July 21, 2017 - 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral: Saturday, July 22, 2017 - 11:00 a.m. Arrangements: L.C. Poitier Funeral Home, 317 N.W. 6th Street, Pompano Beach, FL 33060. Interment: Forest Lawn Cemetery, 200 Copans, Pompano Beach, FL 33064. Repast: Blanche Ely High School Cafeteria,1201 NW 6th Ave., Pompano Beach, FL 33060.
