Frederick Newton Obituary

On December 23, 2021, Frederick "Barry" Newton, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, passed away in his home at the age of 81, due to long-term illness, with his devoted wife, Annemarie, by his side.

Born on March 5, 1940, in Providence, Rhode Island, Barry was the son of Evelyn (née Donovan) and Frederick Newton. Raised primarily in North Providence and attended North Providence High School, graduating in 1958. After graduation, Barry enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as a DAFP, Department of the Air Force Police, stationed in Klamath Falls, Oregon. During this time, he met his first wife, Sharon, with whom they had four children: Brenda, Frederick, Pamela, and Scott.

Barry spent the majority of his career as an ironworker with the "Local 7" in Boston, Massachusetts, before relocating to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1990. He was a staunch supporter of animals. While actively enrolled in charity work for animal rescues, Barry met his future wife and fellow advocate, Annemarie.

Predeceased by both his mother and father, Evelyn and Frederick Newton, his first-wife and mother of his four children, Sharon Newton, his granddaughter, Kailyn Newton, and his nephew Jeffrey Ballew. He is survived by his loving wife, Annemarie, children: Brenda Newton, Frederick (Karen) Newton, Pamela (Joseph) Jannitto, and Scott (Amy) Newton, his sister, Suzan Ballew, his niece, Stacy Ballew, three grandchildren: Kelsey Newton, Alicia Jannitto, and Michael Jannitto, and his lifelong friends: Rick Morrissey, Ward Higgins, Don Richie, and Mike Crossman.

The epitome of a lover of life, Barry loved sailing, boating, sport-fishing, swimming, and going for a run on the beach. He enjoyed a good game of golf, a hearty laugh, and a nice, ice-cold beer. Barry loved life, and as life would have it, he was lucky in love, friendships, and in various lotteries! Although sorely missed, we know Barry is reuniting with family and friends during "happy hour" in Heaven and winning lotteries up there.

Due to the Covid epidemic, no services will be held at this time. As requested, Barry's ashes shall be spread at sea, by his family, at a to-be-determined date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in memory of Frederick "Barry" Newton to a charity of choice.

Barry will be greatly missed. I will especially miss our fishing trips where we caught Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Blackfin Tuna, and would catch and release Sailfish.
I'll miss him calling me and asking "You ready brother?" which always meant fishing the next morning, and Ellen and AnnMarie asking "We having fish for dinner?!"
My favorite memory is our 4-day fishing trip to Bimini.  We fished for 4 days while we were there, and then Ellen, AnnMarie, and Barbara flew over to the island to meet us.
We miss you Barry, and I'll miss you calling me up.
Warm regards,
Larry

Barry, I will miss you forever. Thank you for everything you have done for me. You never asked why, you just did it. I'll miss hearing your voice, see your beautiful smile, and will remember all the wonderful times we had. They are forever embedded in my memory. When I think of you, I will think of your smile, your quick wit, and your laugh. I hope you are fishing with Dad and having a cold beer in heaven. Please give Ma, Dad, and My Jeff a big hug and kiss for me. I love you Barry. Till we meet again.
Your loving sister, Sue
