Gladys Poole Obituary

Poole, Gladys Irene McCandless (Joy) 97 of Pompano Beach, FL, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, February 23, 2011. She was born in Monongahela, PA, on August 15, 1913. She raised her family in Mt. Lebanon, PA while married to Nevin C. Poole (deceased). Survivors are: two daughters, Linda Poole Blake (Walter) of Coral Springs and Vero Beach, FL, and Louise Poole Koren (Edward) of Brandon, FL; four grandchildren: Laura Blake Murphy (Daniel) of Fairfax Station, VA, Jonathan Blake of Valdosta, GA, Daniel Koren (Crystal) of Plant City, FL, and Susan Koren Hines (John) of Gainesville, FL and five great-grandchildren: Blake Murphy, Daniel Murphy, Michael Murphy, Molly Murphy and Bayleigh Koren. Her mother's maiden name was Edith J. Kibler and her grandmother's name was Ada Mae Knox Kibler and her great uncle was Henry Knox, the first Secretary of War of the United States. During her long life she shared her joy of music. In the 1930's she was a member of the Neville Concert and Opera Society which became the Pittsburgh Opera. Also, she had a radio program and sang on KDKA and KQV radio stations. She taught piano from her home in Mt. Lebanon and Lighthouse Point for over 20 years. While a PTA president she composed a Pennsylvania State PTA song and was director of music for the PA State Convention. Later in life she composed four Christian songs: "His Grief", "Who", "Lord, I Yield My Self to Thee", and "Jesus, Dear Jesus". Her life was also full by being a manager of a law office, one of the first administrative assistants at FAU, broker/owner of Poole Realty and a member of the Broward Republican Executive Committee. In addition, she attained Master Points in Bridge. For 47 years she was a member of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church and one of the first participants in the Evangelism Explosion Program under Dr. D. James Kennedy. Later she was a member of Esther Circle. She was a "God and Country" lady espousing The Cultural Mandate and The Great Commission. She had a desire to share her love for Jesus with others: she thanked Him for dying on the cross for her and paying the penalty for her sins and offering her the free gift of heaven-where she is right now! The Gravesite Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 28, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn North Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 200 West Copans Rd., Pompano Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Coral Ridge Ministries, PO Box 40, Ft.Lauderdale, FL 33302.
