Gregory D. Stout, 69, passed away January 22, 2022 in his home in Pembroke Pines, Florida after a valiant struggle over many health problems. He was born July 5, 1952 in Sandusky, Ohio, the second son of Donald E. and Margaret M. (Hill) Stout. Gregory was a 1970 graduate of Perkins High School. Working at McDonalds Restaurant and Carter Lumber in Sandusky, and Modine in Pemberville to pay his way through college, he graduated from Bowling Green State University where he was a proud and loyal Phi Kappa Tau fraternity member.
In 1980, he moved to Kendall, Florida, south of Miami in Dade County and began working for Tropical Shipping in Hialeah. He later lived in North Miami Beach and Miami Shores in Dade County, before finally moving to Pembroke Pines in Broward County. He spent his entire working career in Florida with Tropical Shipping. When Tropical built a new facility in Medley, Florida, they named the terminal in Gregory's name to honor his stellar and lengthy service to them. A brass plaque was mounted on the outside of the building at the front entrance bearing his name, and a commemorative wall display hung inside on the lobby wall.
Gregory enjoyed what life had to offer and always put his family first. He was a truly kind, caring and compassionate man, highly intelligent and extremely inquisitive. There was hardly a subject he didn't know something, or a great deal about. He was an avid communicator with an abundant sense of humor, which kept him very active on social media with scores of friends around the world. Gregory enjoyed history and learning about a place no matter where he went, both domestically and abroad. He loved traveling and visiting as much of nature's beauty as time would permit. He was an avid picture taker and recorded his travels. Gregory loved movies and music and attended many concerts, loved any party or social gathering of which he spent vast amounts of time talking to everyone. He enjoyed water sports from swimming, canoeing and wind surfing to snorkeling and scuba diving. Oh, what he could do with a water balloon slingshot in his hands! He was adventuresome, trying anything from horse back riding to riding his motorcycle, bobsled running to sky diving. He was a member of the League of American Wheelmen, a bicycle organization, and competed in the Hancock One Hundred and Half Hundred Tours in Ohio on a classic six pound LeJeune bicycle.
Throughout his life, Gregory faced numerous health issues and always battled them with determination, strength and a robust desire to overcome whatever beset him. He managed to succeed at that task time after time and always with his humor intact. He perpetually tried to turn every situation of lemons into lemonade. Finally, it became too much for him to struggle against and he left this earth on the same terms he chose to live his life He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gregory is survived by his daughter, Brittany (Adam Leonard) Stout, Indianapolis, Indiana: his brothers, Edward Stout, Sandusky, Ohio and Morgan Stout, Huron, Ohio: an uncle, Henry Gurtz, Hilliard, Ohio and three aunts, Ursula (Robert) Scott and Shiela (Cecil) Duffet, both of Castalia, Ohio, and Marilyn Hill, Phoenix, Arizona; 29 cousins; his daughter's mother, Erica (Ferreira, Stout) Pettis; and a vast multitude of friends.
Gregory was preceded in death by his parents: cousins, Joel Stout and Stephanie Stein, and numerous other relatives. At his request, no funeral will be held and cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date this spring in Sandusky, Ohio.
