Harriet DiSanto Obituary

Harriet Silverberg DiSanto, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 21, 2021, in her 96th year. A kind, gentle spirit, a refined and elegant soul, we celebrate the gift of Harriet and mourn her passing.

Born and raised in Buffalo NY, Harriet earned a bachelor's degree in social work from the University at Buffalo. It was at the University at Buffalo that Harriet met the love of her life, her life-long companion and soul-mate, Ralph. Harriet and Ralph married in 1950, and began a journey that spanned several states and cities, including Buffalo NY, Wilkes-Barre PA, Columbus OH, Springfield IL, Jacksonville FL, Winter Park FL, Hollywood FL, and Deerfield Beach FL.

Harriet is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years, Ralph; her three devoted sons and daughter-in-law: Dale and Patti DiSanto, Ralph DiSanto, Jr., and Dana DiSanto; her three grandchildren: Ryan DiSanto, Kelli DiSanto Lotter (Justin), and Kevin DiSanto; three great-grandchildren: Mathis, Ashton, and Beckham Lotter; brother-in-law, Bernard Levi; and her beloved nieces and nephews. Harriet is predeceased by her parents Emmanuel and Bertha Silverberg, and her sister, Doris Levi.

Harriet's passions in life began with her family. Her marriage was a tribute to the love and commitment shared with her husband Ralph. She was so very proud of her sons and her grandchildren, as well as overjoyed at the arrival of her great-grandchildren. After graduation from UB, Harriet worked as an intake social worker for the Erie County Department of Social Services in Buffalo, NY. Harriet was involved with many service organizations that benefitted from her kind and professional leadership. Some of those organizations include: Hadassah, the Jewish Center in Columbus, OH, the League of Women Voters (serving as vice president in Pennsylvania), Mercy Hospital Annual Hospital Ball, PTA (serving as president), Saint Francis/Saint George Annual Hospital Ball, and several United Way organizations. Harriet was a life-long learner who loved to read and increase her knowledge on a wide range of subjects.

Harriet will be remembered as a gracious, elegant, and fair-minded lady, a selfless person, a generous friend, an excellent listener and confidante, and the beautiful partner and wife on the team of "Ralph and Harriet." She will be greatly missed by all of those touched by her kindness.

Funeral services will be held at Sinai Memorial Chapel in Delray Beach, FL. Interment will be at the VA National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL.

In lieu of flowers, our family suggests memorial contributions to either Plant a Tree in Israel (http://hadassah.org or http://JNF.org) or The United Way Retirees Association (UWRA, 107 S. West St., Ste. 761, Alexandria, VA 22314).

Mary Ruth Clarke

August 24, 2021

Dear Uncle Ralph, Dale, Ralph, and Dana:
So sad to hear about Harriet's passing. She was such a lovely, thoughtful, and vibrant person. The Clarke girls have such fond memories of our back and forth visits in Upper Arlington, and all those Ohio State football game. Harriet sent me a lovely lengthy holiday letter in 2020, and I read it over and over to Ruth on the phone. It lifted Mom´s spirits, so. (And I marveled at how lovely Harriet´s penmanship was!) Harriet was so thoughtful and curious and kind. Such a class act. May Harriet rest in peace and she will be missed.
