Hernando Chong, M.D., 81, of Plantation, FL passed away on January 3rd at Westside Regional Medical Center where he attended patients for his entire professional career.

Dr. Chong is survived by his wife, Graciela, his four children and seven grandchildren.

Besides being a dedicated physician and spending time with family and friends, he had a passion for reading, teaching, art, music and sports. Throughout his life and service to the community he touched many lives and will be truly missed by all who knew him.

He was the best doctor. He took his time to illustrate and draw pictures of the health problem. He always went over my lab results line by line. He explained what issue value indicated about your well being. I will really miss his warm and caring manner. I just finished crying. His family can take comfort in his loving memory.

Dr. Hernando Chong was truly a great physician, gentleman, boss, friend, and father- like figure. He loved medicine and loved his patients even more. You could walk in with pain or some kind of issue and he would draw you a picture so you would understand what was going on. Then to top that, the laughter that you would hear from that room was contagious. He would say, "there is no good doctor without good patients". So many have cried to me and with me because we all will miss him. To his family, my sincere condolences to you all. May he rest in peace.

Dr. Chong was my mom’s doctor for about 15 years. He was such a great doctor that my dad, sister, her husband, my fiancé, and I were all his patients. He was amazing and there is no other doctor like him. He took his time and was extremely knowledgeable. He cared like no other doctor and it is going to be very hard to find someone else. My husband, son, and I were all patients of Dr. Chong for many years. He was an amazing doctor. I referred anyone I knew to him since he was always so great. I will miss him dearly and only hope that I am able to find a doctor as good as Dr. Chong in my lifetime.
