Hugh L. Harris

HUGH L. HARRIS died October 26, 2016, at Holy Cross Hospital Hospice. Hugh was born in Savannah, GA, on September 24, 1927, and had been a resident of Fort Lauderdale since 1930. He was married to Jeannie for 66 years and is also survived by daughters, Kathy (Greg) Hoffman and Sandy Harris, two grandchildren, Heather (Chris) Ricks and Brad (Ashley) Hoffman and five great grandchildren, Taylor, Tyler, and Grayson Ricks, and Cole and Declan Hoffman. Hugh graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1945 and was a founder of the Fort Lauderdale High School Half Century Alumni Club. Hugh was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity while attending the University of Florida. He served in many capacities at First Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Oakland Park. Hugh served as Lt. Governor of Kiwanis in 1982. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years, retiring in 1982. Celebration of Life will be Saturday, November 5th, at 2 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 401 S. E. 15th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. Hugh requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Oakland Park Kiwanis Foundation, P. O. Box 24931, Oakland Park, FL 33307 for the Children's Backpack program, which provides weekend meals for needy families.
