Ida Stein Obituary

Stein, Ida (Glickstein), age 89, of Swampscott, Salem, and Delray Beach, FL, entered into rest on June 20, 2008 after a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Stein. Born in Chelsea, MA on August 22, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Rose (Loiterstein) Glickstein. She was raised in Chelsea and graduated from Chelsea High School. She went on to graduate from Salem State College with a degree in History. Mrs. Stein worked for many years as the bookkeeper for her late husband's firm, Stein and Co. of Chelsea. She was a member of Congregation Shirat Hayam (formerly Temple Israel) where she was a member of the Sisterhood. She also was a member of Hadassah, a life member of Women's ORT and was involved with the Jewish Rehabilitation Center, Hebrew Senior Life, and was a member of the Kernwood Country Club. She was the devoted mother of Sidney Stein of Atlanta, GA and Rosalyn Cohen of Newton Centre, MA. Loving sister of the late Meyer Glickstein and the late Davida Goldsmith. Dear mother-in-law of Harold Cohen. Cherished grandmother of Marcy and Jose Navarro, Chari and Enivaldo Oliveira and Kimberly Goldman. Loving great-grandmother of Joseph and Marc Navarro, and Arielle and Amanda Cohen-Oliveira; and dear aunt to many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held today, Monday, June 23, 2008 at 1 PM at the Stanetsky-Hyamnson Memorial Chapel, 10 Vinnin St, Salem, followed by burial in Shirat Hayam Cemtery, Temple Israel Section, Peabody. Memorial observance will be held from 7-10 PM today Monday and Tuesday at the home of Marcy and Jose Navarro. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Flr., Brookline, MA 02445.
