Davis, James "JR", passed away May 15th from terminal melanoma brain cancer. He is survived by his friends, who were his "family," as well as by his father, sister, and niece in Tampa, FL. JR was raised in Ohio and began his theatre career by touring the world as a dance teacher and actor on Broadway before moving to South Florida in the mid 80's. The last several years he was the Office Manager for Dr. Frank Tomaka's medical practice. There will be a special memorial, per his wishes, honoring him on Saturday, July 15th at his roommate's home in Pompano Beach. Friends are welcome to attend. We were fortunate to have known JR for about 9 years. He was a good friend and was so good to us when we were visiting FL and then moved to FL after we retired. We came to think of him as part of our family and will miss his wonderful sense of humor. His last weeks were not very comfortable for him, but he faced it all with an unbelievably good attitude. Some days were better than others, some days we cried together, but through it all he kept his wonderful sense of humor. We will miss you, JR, but I know that you and Ritchie are "dancing" around the heavens with a martini in each hand.

Love you always,

Donna & Dick

First, I want to thank all of you for taking the time to write in JR’s Guest Book. It is so wonderful to read how he has touched so many lives. It’s been one month today (June 15th) since his passing and it still hasn't fully sunk in. I miss him everyday; the "kids" miss him everyday. The house will always have a certain emptiness without him but also ... there is a warmth in the house from his vivacious spirit that I hope never fades or leaves us.

JR, I KNOW you and Riche are finally together again and I hope wherever you both are ... that you guys are equipped with continuous Vodka Martini's with blue cheese olives for eternity! Save that seat for me.

I miss you...

JR was a very sweet man who cared for another nice guy named Ritchie. Since I did not live in Ft. Lauderdale, I only knew of these great guys through my good friends: Carol Cappadonna and Orlando Rodriguez. I am sorry for the loss, but know that JR and Ritchie are once again planning another "fun" party with friends. Jeff Banning, Dallas, Texas

I had the extreme pleasure of first meeting Junior when he and Richie started dating. I had been a friend of Richie's for many years and was in Ft. Lauderdale visiting when they first met. Of course, my initial thought was that no one was good enough for Richie. Boy, was I wrong!!! Junior not only proved to me that he was good enough, but quickly demonstrated that he was one of the most loving and giving men I have ever known. We, too, became good friends, as I was lucky enough to have more visits where we laughed and cried, talked and sat in silence, and shared a beautiful bond that this world can never break. Unfortunately, I can't attend the memorial as it occurs on the same day as my sister's surprise 50th birthday party, but my spirit, enriched by Junior's unconditional love and understanding, will be there. I love you, Junior, and will miss you until we meet again......

We had the honor to spend some precious moments with JR when visiting Florida. Although the encounter was only for a short time we cherrished our discussions on the patio. JR you will be missed. The next Martini is on you and the one after that, too! ;-)

May you find peace and joy wherever your soul goes.
