James David Tendler, 85, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2021, at his home in Boynton Beach, Florida surrounded by his daughters,
"Jimmy" was born August 8, 1935 in New Haven, CT – the son of John and Ida (Rubin) Tendler. A graduate of Hill House High School and later an Associate's degree from Quinnipiac College, he was always extremely proud of his New Haven upbringing and roots.
After a brief Army service stationed at Fort Dix, NJ, he went on to marry the love of his life Carol (Rosell) who would remain his wife, best friend, and business partner for over 50 years.
Jimmy lived a life filled with friendships, laughter, love (and lots of poker!). Jimmy and Carol were the owners of The House of Lamps in Jericho, NY and later opened Lampshades Plus in Orange, CT. The latter was a successful business that was open for 40 years (closing just this June). In his spare time, he loved traveling, especially the annual family trips to Maine where he would indulge in a 5-pound lobster every night. He also enjoyed dining at his favorite restaurants, volunteering at Yale New Haven Hospital, entertaining, dancing, cooking classes, antiquing, spending quality time with family, and schmoozing with anyone who crossed his path. Later in life, he enjoyed a retirement that he referred to as "camp", playing in no fewer than eight poker games a week. He always said he was the luckiest guy at the table, referring not only to his prowess as a player, but to the abundance of love and good fortune he had in his life.
Jimmy was predeceased by his beloved wife Carol, his eldest daughter Jill Pendergast, and his first grandchild, Matthew.
He is survived by his daughters Linda Corradi (Ralph) of Stony Creek, CT, and Karen Tendler (John) of Guilford, CT, as well as his son-in-law John Pendergast of Orange, CT. He is also survived by his sister Ellen Cohen of Denver, Colorado. Jimmy adored his grandchildren Jacob, Daniel, Rachel, Jennifer, and Lauren and will be dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his special friend Bernice Selsky of Boynton Beach, FL
