Joan Buzzallino Obituary

Buzzallino, Joan Marie of Pompano Beach, Florida died Thursday, December 30th at the age of 77.

Joan was a graduate of Our Lady of Mercy Academy and Cabrini College where she served on the Board of Trustees and is a Trustee Emerita. Joan established the Buzzallino Family Faculty Fund at Cabrini University as well as a scholarship that provides a global experience to a student who otherwise couldn't afford it. Joan served on the board of the Stamford Museum and Nature Center and was an active participant in the IBM On Demand Community, supporting volunteerism around the world. As a patron of the Arts, she was a supporting member of the Friends of the Uffizi Gallery, specifically the restoration of the museum's Titian Salon. Joan had a 35 year career at IBM Corporation. She was among the first women in the sales organization, she was a leader in succession planning, and a strong advocate for diversity, equality and inclusion. She retired as vice president for Human Resources Global Industries.

What Joan cherished most was time with her family and friends, always the first to celebrate those most important to her. Joan will be greatly missed by her two devoted sisters, Susan Dougherty (Bob) and Anne Matarazzo(Thomas). Surviving in addition to her sisters, are her nieces and nephews; Paul Buzzallino, Elizabeth McCormick, Kristin Henderson, Suzanne Matarazzo, Alan Buzzallino, Joseph Dougherty, Thomas Matarazzo, Karen Dussich and Kathryn Matarazzo, as well as their families who adored her. She is predeceased by her parents Josephine (McCann) and Angelo Buzzallino, and her brother Paul Buzzallino.

Joan will be honored Thursday evening from 5-8 PM @ Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, Ramsey, NJ. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 7 at 10 AM in NJ. The funeral mass will be live streamed at (https://www.churchofpresentation.org/funeral-ministry/) Cremation will be private. Donations can be made to Tolife.org and the MFLfoundation.com. In my capacity as chief academic officer, I was privileged to get to know Joan when she served on the Board of Trustees of her alma mater, Cabrini College. I admired her for what she had accomplished in her career, but even more so because of who she was as a person. I extend my deepest sympathy to her family.
