Sgt. John J. Savage
John J. Savage''s mother recalls stories from his childhood that showed his distinct interest in the military _ replacing his bed with an Army cot and footlocker, painting his room black with netting on the walls and building a Quonset hut in the backyard. "He loved the military. It was a lifelong dream of his," said his mother, Jacki Park. "He lived it from that age." Savage, 26, of Weatherford, Texas, died Dec. 4 when a suicide bomber in an SUV broadsided his armored vehicle in Mosul. He was assigned to Fort Leonard Wood He spent three years in Germany before deploying to Iraq on his first tour in 2005 before returning home in March of 2007. He was deployed again in September. His mother described him as a charismatic young man with a great sense of fun and who was taught to always look for the brighter side of a situation. "He loved four-wheeler drives, loved automobiles and the outdoors," said Tim Cox, a lifelong friend. Savage also is survived by his 3-year-old daughter, Nicole; and his father, John Savage.

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of John J. Savage US Army Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

To the family of SGT Savage,

May God bless and keep you all at this time that marks 5 years since his passing. I served in Iraq with him in the 94th Engineer Battalion. It seems like just yesterday since that awful day. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. His death shocked us all coming at the end of the deployment. I will never forget him.

Each and every breath of fresh air that we take for granted is made possible because of the sacrifices of heroes like US Army SGT John J Savage. Our most sincere condolences are sent from our Douglasville Georgia home to the family and friends of this American Hero. It is because of his willingness serve in harms way that allow us to live free. He served as a defender of our freedom. He is in heaven now, protecting us every day
We pray that the Lord above lay his healing hands on the family and friends of this Hero and comfort them. Give them the strength to carry on while remembering their fallen Hero evermore. We will keep him in our hearts forever.

Oh baby boy-I am distraught and overwhelmed with emotions. I have so many things to talk to you about-we have lots to catch up on! I think about the moments that could've been and now (again) I have to wait. I missed getting to hold you for the first time to see your tiny feet and hands and kiss them. To be proud of you-then and now. I admire the man I will never meet-to hug your neck and tell you how much I love you. I sending my hugs to you-I know your getting them-Mom does too. I see you in me-I see you in my family. I feel all the love-you will always have, from so many, for different reasons. Know this, there will come a day when we are together-and the joy and laughter will follow.It's going to be LOUD! I love you baby boy.

Dear Jester, I wish now that i had told you this before, from the day i met you, you were my mentor, you have no idea how much you taught me while serving with you. We had a lot of great times i just wish we could have had a lot more. It was a pleasure to work with you, it was an honor to know you.

To Jesters Family, no words can express how sorry i am for your loss or how much the loss of SGT Savage has impacted his unit. John was one of the best soldiers i have ever met, and one of the finest young men I've had the honor of serving with. He is greatly missed and will never be forgotten. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Hey Bro,

I really miss you dude I think about you every single day I've started to have dreams just about every other day with you in them or something about you. It's Febuary now I just turned 24 on the 4th and next month on the 4th is your birthday can't help to still be in denial with everything but I guess It'll get better in time. I miss the times we shared I miss the times we were going to share. You and I were close closer than anyone I've ever known. You helped me in so many ways. I survived the military because of you and I've learned many of life's lessons. You listened to me when others wouldn't you gave me advice on things when others wouldn't even if it was the cold hard truth you were always straight forward but thats what everyone loved about you. Always straight up and honest.
I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for you. Jared Thank you for everything!!!

I LOVE YOU BRO!!!!!!

Dear Jackie and Family
I'm so sorry for your loss. I met Jared while he was in Germany and sold him his red Mustang. Man he loved that car. My husband is also in the Army.

Jared,
i miss talking to you and our crazy conversations about the most random things. You always knew how to make me laugh. I don't think I ever saw you not smiling or in a bad mood. You saw something good in everything. And you had your heart in the right place. Rest in Peace my friend. I will never forget you and your country is very proud of you.

I knew of JJ since he was only 3 years old and I've always thought of him as a brother. I will miss him.

Each time we communicated while he was in the military, I always told him to just stay safe! Sometimes thats not always possible, and what I failed to recognize at that time was that I already was talking with a hero. JJ dreamed of being a soldier and he saw that dream through.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

It is truly a honor to be your oldest sister. I remember cuddling you when you were only minutes old and will never forget holding your hand long after your last breath. You lived more in your 26 years than I will in my whole life. Not every road was smooth nor every hill steep. I'm just so glad I was with you for such an irreplacable journey. It's almost been a month since you were killed. I still can't believe you are gone. You were not just my brother, you were my friend. Someone I could tell anything and you would never judged me, you always had my back. You were more than a brother, you are my HERO. You helped me in so many ways, big and small. I miss you. The way you would hug me so tight that i couldn't breath, our wrestling matches, doing donuts on the base, and all the little silly things we use to do and say to each other. I hope you know much you mean to me. How much you helped me. How you helped me break free. I love you and miss you GREATLY.

To the family and friends of Sgt. Savage...words cannot capture the gratitude that millions of Americans have for the courage and service of Sgt. Savage. We hold a special place in our hearts for those that have given all. We don't speak about it often...but it is a place reserved for better men and women than we ever hope to be. John's life had a purpose and I am certain that he saved the lives of many of his fellow Soldiers. His spirit of serving and protecting others continues to live within all those Soldiers with whom he served. He will never be forgotten. I intend to commit to doing something for others, in honor of John's service to His Country. Please accept my heart-felt expression of sympathy for the loss of your beloved Soldier.

John, I just wanted to say thank you for your brave and honorable service to a greatful nation. Like so many others you have volunteered to serve our country and protect the vary freedom America was built on. Please know John that you like so many other fallen brother and sisters in arms that you will never be forgotten and you are heroes to us all. My nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward also paid the ultimate price on 5/6/08 while on a routine patrol in Anbar Province as an MP. His unit was ambushed and came under small arms fire and he was taken from us. Not a day goes by that I do not think of him and all our brave heroes serving in our armed services. I stand tall and salute you John and will forever honor the memory of you along with my nephew. To the Savage family words cannot express enough the pain both our families now must endure and my prayer is that the memory of your brave hero carry you through each day as you cope with this tragic loss. Since the loss of my dear nephew I have written on every single legacy page of every fallen soldier and included a photo of my nephew. I encourage you to do the same to Aaron's page. I have done this to honor my nephew but to let you know that your John is not alone and my nephew is with him and they are now in God's gracious hands waiting for us to join them one day. From the bottom of my heart please except my sincere condolences and please feel free to write back when ever you would like. God Bless and we will always be thinking of our HEROES.

Years ago the mention of your name would bring images of a skinny little runt who enjoyed pestering his older cousins. The last few years though your name would bring images of a man who had chosen a path that few are willing to take. It made me proud to know that you had chosen the path of a Soldier. Few now a days understand the meaning of service, but I know you did. You have made all us very proud JJ. It hurts to think about it sometimes but I am proud to have been your cousin and even prouder to have been a brother in uniform.

I have read Bud's guest book several times , and want to thank everyone of you for the comforting thoughts, prayers and honoring a (my) Hero. Words cannot express my gratitude.Thank you so much. Now the last entry is to my beloved son.....Death is nothing at all. You have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and You are You. Whatever we are to each other, that we are still. Call me by that old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always do. Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. We will laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, as I of you, pray for me. I will ever let your name be ever the household word that it always will be. Let it be spoken without effort, without the trace of a shadow on it. Your life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of my mind because your not out of my sight. I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well, my son, all is well.

John,

On behalf of Sabrina and Chris we would like to express our deepest sympathy for you and your family on the loss of a TRUE American hero. With the courage and bravery from your son John, we would not have the freedom we enjoy today. Know one thing - as a retired military man myself, I know the sacrifices we must face and the pain we are faced to endure. SGT John Savage will forever be remembered and honored in a way most of us cannot imagine. Stay strong and use his memory to help others in need. That is what men like him would want. Commitment to our way of life and selfiness is what makes our military armed forces one of the best in the world. GOD bless you all and thank you for being the father of one our greatest heroes.

May God wrap his arms around your family in this time of need. Thanks to your son's gratitude and heroism we are free. Gone but Never Forgotten. I did not know this young man but I was summoned to deliver food to the family by a VFW member on Wednesday and even though we normally will not deliver from Golden Chick I could not say no because of the reason. I felt like it was a duty of mine to give so little for somone who had done so much and a family who has given the biggest of sacrifices. Once again I felt as I needed to say bless each one of you and Thank You All.

To the Savage Family, I did know J.J. he was a very good friend to my neice Natasha Fowler and my nephew Lonnie Johnson Jr. and he had come to church with Natasha before. I know he was a great person and loved his friends very much. We are all feeling his loss right now but I know that J.J. is in a much better place and we will see him again someday. I pray for comfort and understanding during this time. THANK YOU J.J. FOR THE FREEDOM YOU HAVE GIVEN ME AS AN AMERICAN! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY!

No words are adequate to truly express our feelings of sorry at the untimely passing of Sgt. Savage. When any solder falls in the line of duty, we are all diminished by the loss and reminded that heroes have walked among us unaware. I offer our sympathy to those he loved and who loved him on behalf of all of the people of Palo Pinto County. We owe him our undying gratitude. We owe his family our prayerful support.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Sgt. John J. Savage our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for John. And to John it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing terrorist forces in Iraq. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. John, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to John’s family and loved ones.

I remember "JJ" from school from years ago. The pictures in the paper brought tears to my eyes. Your son had a strong will and stronger heart. I would like just to let you know that your son is a hero. Thank you, and your family, for JJ. He was a blessing to the USA.
