John McDermott Obituary

McDermott, John A. (Jack), died peacefully on April 18. He was born in Chicago, IL on October 16, 1930, and lived there until moving to Arlington Heights, IL, after marrying Dar Olson in 1955. Their daughter, Robin was born in 1958 in Evanston, IL and within a year they were off to Philadelphia. In 1961 their son John Randall (Randy) was born in West Chester, PA and after that the moves became fast and furious, as Jack was moving up the corporate ladder. Robin now resides with her husband, Ray, in Waits-field, VT and Randy and his wife, Johnnie, live in Lake Worth with their 3 sons, Tyler, Shane and KC. Those 3 boys were in Jack's thoughts always. They became his "everything". Jack was a two time veteran, serving the first time in the Army Air Corps, and the second time in the U.S. Air Force. He began his corporate career by working for Sunoco as an accountant and eventually working his way up the ladder to Executive Vice-President of the Radnor Corporation, the real estate development arm of the Sun Oil Company. He is well known in Philadelphia for 10 & 11 Penn Center and may other large developments (hotels, retirement villages, shopping centers, etc.) and has received many awards in his career; he was named one of the top three real estate developers in the Philadelphia area and profiled in the Wall Street Journal. His last project was the renovation on the clubhouse at Stone-bridge Golf and Country Club in Boca Raton. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Jack McDermott, we all love you and will miss you greatly. Hospice of PBC, we can't say enough for what you have done for our family. Services private. Donations to Hospice of Palm Beach County.
