John Martin Turek Sr.

John Turek Obituary

John Martin Turek Sr, age 94, born in Lauscarona, Poland, passed away Friday evening, October 27, 2017, at his home in Obrien, Florida, from congestive heart failure under the care of Hospice. John's passing was quiet and peaceful and in the company of family and friends who loved him. John immigrated with his belated parents, Martin John Turek and Julia Nalpa, from Poland at the age of 9 months and grew up on a homestead in Newington, Conneticut. As a young man, John served in the Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946 as a Corporal, Technician Fifth Grade, Automotive Mechanic. During his army service, John became a naturalized American citizen in November 1945 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After the war, in 1947, John married Virgina Schultz (1925 to 1993) and they moved to Pompano Beach, Florida in 1954. John and Virginia raised three children. For 15 years, John worked for an Oldsmobile dealer as an automotive mechanic before starting his own appliance repair business, Able Appliance. After 25 years of running his appliance repair business, John retired. Following 15 years of retirement, John moved to Obrien Florida to fly airplanes with his brother-in-law Donald Schultz. Besides flying, John also liked to build houses, go RVing, deep sea fishing and boating, and live in the country with horses, goats and other livestock, which reminded him of his youth growing up on his parent's homestead, and plowing the fields with a horse drawn plow. John is survived by two of his children, John Martin Turek Jr, and Linda Turek Weaver. Also surviving John are his grandchildren by his son John Martin Turek Jr and daughter-in-law Carol Turek: Dawn Turek, John Martin Turek III and grand-daughter-in-law Robin Turek, (the parents of his great-grandson, Mason Turek), and Julia Turek Valentine and son-in-law Andy Valentine (the soon to be parents of a new great-grandchild); and his grandchildren by his daughter Linda Weaver: Dennis Weaver, and David Weaver. As a life-long Christian, John has now been reunited in heaven with his beloved wife Virginia, and their son, Kenneth Turek, and many other family and friends that preceded John. The memorial service will be held at the family Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion in Hawthorne, Florida. Arrangements are pending. Please contact John Martin Turek Jr for details.

My deepest condolences go out to your families. I always enjoyed visiting with Uncle John each time I was in OBrien. He always had a smile that would light up his face, and everyone around. I am glad that he and my Dad lived next door to each other. That companionship was so appreciated by both. I am truly sorry for your loss.
