Justin McCarthy Obituary
Justin Haley (Jud) McCarthy Jr., 86, of Boca Raton, Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on December 29, 2022. He was born to Justin H. McCarthy Sr. and Vera Lois Arthur McCarthy on May 30, 1936, in Cortland NY. He graduated from Cortland High School in 1954 and SUNY Morrisville Technical College in 1956 whereupon he began building an extraordinary career at IBM. He met Mary Louise Brown, they married July 27, 1957, moved to Boca Raton in 1968, and raised five children.
Jud's distinguished career with IBM spanned over 50 years during which he was honored with numerous accolades and awards of excellence in engineering culminating in his induction to the Computing Hall of Fame in San Francisco, CA.
An accomplished golfer, he was also very enthusiastic about his sports teams the Miami Dolphins, the Miami Heat, and the Miami Marlins. He was a classic car enthusiast and restored his 1963 Chevy Nova Super Sport to its original factory release condition whereupon he and the car were featured in an issue of "Nova Times" magazine.
Exceptionally passionate about his family legacy, Jud became a founding member of the "McCarthy DNA Study", a foundation established in Ireland and England. Through this foundation he traced his heritage back to County Cork, Dunmanway Ireland. He traveled there many times and often for "McCarthy" reunions, a tradition his family will continue to honor.
He was predeceased by his devoted and beloved wife of 57 years, Mary, his mother Vera, father Justin Sr., and brother Charles. He is survived by his loving children James (Pamela), Colleen McCarthy Lopez (Mike), Kathleen McCarthy Mahfood (Jerry), Maureen McCarthy Robinson (Joseph), Patrick (Allison), and Stephen (Cheryl Ann) Nemecek as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In Lieu of flowers Jud requested a donation be made to St Patrick's Church, Dunmanway Ireland through The Bank of Ireland, Clonakilty – to account numbers IBAN IE30 BOFI 9028 4828 5960 29 BIC BOFIIE2D.
