Louis Askew Obituary

Louis Samuel Askew, 94, passed away peacefully in Delray Beach on January 26, 2024.

He was born in Cincinnati, OH to the late Walter and Elizabeth (Bess) Askew. Following graduation from Michigan State University, he served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the post-Korean War era.

On December 1, 1956, he married Norma Jean Trimpe in Covington, KY. The family lived in Cincinnati until 1971, when they moved to Virginia. In 1973, the family resettled in Pembroke Pines, FL. Mr. Askew was a very active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Pembroke Pines and, in later life, of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Lake Worth, FL. Norma passed away in Pembroke Pines in 2009.

After he moved to southern Palm Beach County, Mr. Askew volunteered his time extensively at the then-new Bethesda Hospital West.

Mr. Askew is survived by his sons Keith and his wife, Barbara; Ken and his wife, Michelle; Kurt and his wife, Tamera; his daughter, Melanie Herrin and her husband, Larry; his grandchildren Scott Askew (Jacky) and Steven Askew (Marcela); Caitlyn Askew (Sr. Mary Elizabeth) and Ryan Askew (Sydney); Jena Ryan (Casey) and Shaun Kelly (Cassie); Amanda Liebl (Lance) and Emily Herrin (Charlotte Watson); and five great-grandchildren: Colton and Parker Liebl, Wyatt Kelly, Chatham Ryan, and Asher Askew.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 6090 Hypoluxo Road, Lake Worth, FL. A Funeral Mass at St. Matthew will immediately follow the visitation.

A private interment service will follow later that day at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens South Cemetery at 2401 SW 64th Avenue (Davie Road), Fort Lauderdale. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to St. Matthew Catholic Church, 6090 Hypoluxo Road, Lake Worth, FL 33463.

I extend my deepest condolences for the loss of a wonderful person. Louis was more than a patient; he was a dear friend, and I feel grateful to have known him.
Our conversations during appointments were always a highlight, filled with laughter and wisdom. Louis's favorite saying, 'stay sweet,' will forever echo in my memory.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your lives, sharing in the memories and stories that made Louis the remarkable person he was.
May you find strength in the love and memories you shared. Louis will be dearly missed.
With heartfelt sympathy,

Mr. Askew was always so kind and caring about us kids as we were growing up. Melanie was in my class, and he also was my younger brother's baseball coach, along with my Dad and several other Dads. Fun times sitting watching those games. RIP Mr. Askew. You will always be remembered as a kind, giving, wonderful man.

Grandpa and Grandma. A love like no other.

Above all the great things my grandfather accomplished in his lifetime (military officer, talented craftsman, world traveler, and self-published author) he was proudest of his family. There was no greater love than the love between him and my grandmother (Romeo and Juliet, eat your hearts out). My grandfather helped teach me what it meant to dedicate one’s life to serving others, to being a good friend, and putting family above all else. It is an example I hope to live up to.

Rest easy, Grandpa. Love you.

My heart goes out to the family. I feel blessed to have known Lou, as he was a wonderful, kind, compassionate man. Lou lived a good, long life and he will be missed by so many. It makes me smile to know he will be re-united with his love, Norma. Rest in peace, Lou.

A son could not ask for a better role model than my dad. He dedicated his life to his family and always put them first. His love for his wife was unparalleled.
Love you dad!! “Stay Sweet”
