Mark Flurie Obituary

Mark, age 65, died unexpectedly on 12/11/18. He leaves behind four sisters, Carol, Cathy, Lisa and Joanne. Mark was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale by Robert and Rachel Flurie. He loved eating, air boating the Ocklawaha River with his sister, Coca Cola, scratch-offs, visits from his sisters, cigarettes and beautiful women (not necessarily in that order). Our brother had a lifelong battle with schizophrenia. Despite this, he had a loving, protecting way about him. His infectious laugh and beautiful smile were enjoyed by all who knew him. Mark's kind soul will be greatly missed. Graveside services will be held at Highlands Memorial Park in Ocala, FL on January 17th at 11:00. An airboat ride on the river he so fondly enjoyed will follow. In lieu of flowers, please show an act of kindness toward someone in your community who suffers with mental illness.

I will always cherish the airboat rides and horse back rides with Uncle Mark! Airboating was a place he could be free and express himself and no one had to quiet him down! He wore a huge infectious smile on his face and could drink an entire coke in record breaking time!! I will always miss and love you Uncle Mark!

My brother in law Mark was one of a kind. I knew Mark for about 10 years. His Loving and caring way was evident when we visited. Mark and his sister Joanne loved one another unconditionally. While staying with us for the Christmas holiday he brought joy to everyone. We'll miss you buddy. A special place exists for Mark in heaven. God bless you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I grew up one street over from you. Your house was behind the Haywood's and ours was across the street from them. May you remember Mark fondly and know that he is at peace now.

I have very fond memories of my big brother Mark as a child. He used to play hide n' seek with me in our tiny house. Probably no larger than 800 sq ft. I could never find him. When we got much older he would tell people I was his older sister since my birthday was one day before his.
Anytime I hear the song, "American Pie" I think of Mark. It was the most popular back when Mark was maybe 18-20 I guess.
He was a great big brother and I miss him very much.
