Nathan Gilson Obituary
Gilson, Nathan age 91, died on May, 9, 2006 in his home in Coconut Creek, Florida. He is survived by his loving family including his children Mark Gilson who lives in Atlanta, GA with his wife Jane Yates, and Daryl Miller, who lives in Lighthouse Point, FL, and his granddaughter, Robbi Miller, who lives in Manhattan. Nathan was a devoted and loving husband to Rhea for 62 years until she died 5 months ago. Nat was a man who could ?engage almost anyone with his wit and ?intelligence. First and foremost, he was a musician, playing trombone all of his life with big bands in the 1930's and 1940's and also in orchestras. He was skilled performing jazz and classical music and particularly loved Dixieland. He served in the Army during WWII and was in Army Airforce Band. When his children were born, he made a change in ?career to business and accounting. This was rather amazing since he had a disability from his military service that made it almost impossible for him to write. Nat worked for a company called Walter E. Heller in corporate finance. He started as a bookkeeper and by the time he retired, was the vice president. He was bilingual and conducted business for them in the US and Latin countries. In his ?retirement, he traveled with Rhea to many exotic locations, particularly enjoying cruises. They had a large circle of friends at their previous home at Willow Bend in Lake Worth. Nat helped motivate his children, with Daryl becoming a senior professor of biology and Mark a clinical psychologist. His pride in his granddaughter, a double Harvard graduate and New York attorney, was known to all. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to the Broward Community College Foundation, Nathan Gilson Memorial Music Scholarship Fund, 225 East Las Olas Blvd., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33301. Services will be conducted by Rabbi Richard Rocklin at Riverside-Gordon Memorial Chapel, 7205 West Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach, 561-496-7550 at 9:45am and burial at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens (Garden of Israel), 11520 State Road 7 (441), Boynton Beach.
