Nicholas Dworet Obituary
Nicholas was a captain of the school's swim team, winning first-place honors in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle at the 2017 Broward County Athletic Association swimming and diving championships.
"He dreamed of making the Olympic swim team," the Dworet family said in a statement. "He believed he could accomplish anything as long as he tried his best."
The Sun-Sentinel quoted one of Nicholas's teammates, Guillermo Barrios: "He was very positive and a very cheerful person. He was always trying to encourage people to push themselves to the limit. He was very dedicated and determined with swimming, and he was a very kind person."
The Miami Herald reports that Nicholas had received a swimming scholarship to the University of Indianapolis.
Legacy mourns all those who died at Stoneman Douglas.

You and your family are thought of, every day. We met briefly during your more immediate time of mourning, and it was readily apparent what a graceful, warm, loving family produced such remarkable young adults and individuals of the world. Such a blessing for you to have each other in your lives. Nicholas was remarkable and he was cut from the cloth. nick and i met on instagram 2 years ago and immediately started messaging each other. he helped me through so much and it hurts that hes gone. i havent slept since i heard the news. nobody understood me like he did. he always know what to say to make me smile. my mood always changed once i got a message from him. he made me so happy.

I have found out about you when it was too late to tell you how amazing I think you are. You were hard-working, positive and loving young man and I admire you for that. I will never forget such a kindhearted individual. It almost seemed as though every weekend Nicholas would come into me saying, "I ran a 5K this weekend!" I thought he was kidding until he came in again saying that he ran in another event and that was it... Nicholas was literally off and running to continue to beat his personal best! I knew from that point on that he'd have an amazing track record in front of him. I am brokenhearted that his life has been stopped short, but I am grateful for the year I spent with him during his second grade studies. I absolutely love knowing that his athletic career continued on into high school and that it even landed him a scholarship for college. So proud of you Nicholas! Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Dworet for sharing your son with me for even a small part of his education, for he brightened up our day - everyday. I will continue to hold his happy, kind, intelligent, curious, funny, and friendly demeanor in my heart for always. He was a joy and pleasure to be around and will be remembered forever.

I'm a law student from Tbilisi, Caucasia, 10000 miles away from you. It was midnight here, when I heard about the shooting.
I couldn't sleep that night and even though I've not been religious last time, I was praying with all my heart hoping you would be found safe.
I'm sorry you had to go through this.... I'm sorry I heard about you this way...
I just wanted to say that your life reminded me something I knew at 17 but forgot later. You reminded me to smile more often, to set high goals and never give up on my dreams. Thank you for that.
Now everytime I smile, I remember you.
Everytime I do something on the way of my goals, I remember you.
You could do so much more.... But what you already did is enough for me to remember you whole my life.
