Norman Nissim Hayon

Norman Hayon, my father, late of Aventura Florida, has gone to heaven to be with his wife and my mother, Edith. Norman fought a great battle with dementia over the last 3 years. He was a wonderful father for 70 years, a loving husband for 61 years and a devoted son to his parents. Norman and his parents escaped Berlin in 1938, lived in Cuba till 1942, came to the USA and immediately enlisted in the US Army where he was placed in the "Ritchie Boys" outfit, a unit of dedicated German Jewish Refugees that went back to Europe to fight the Nazis. Norman was in Algiers and Italy coming back from the war in October 1945. Thereafter, he met Edith, who also escape Austria at a nightclub that many Jewish refugees attended. They married in 1948 where Norman had a long career in Gimbels Dept. Store Long Island in carpeting and furniture while Edith had a long career in retail jewelry having spent 20 years in the Jewelers Exchange in Aventura, Florida. Norman spent the last 3 years in a memory care facility before moving to a brand new Veterans nursing home where is was attended to 24hrs a day by the wonderful staff and Treasure Coast Hospice. They are all angels and I could not have asked for anything better than the care he received. To ALL his friends and acquaintances that knew him and my mother, I thank you for being in their lives.
