Patricia Murphy Obituary

Murphy Murphy, Patricia J. Manhattan attorney and part time resident of Fort Lauderdale, died June 25 after a short illness. She was 72. An Intellectual Property specialist, Ms. Murphy was counsel for the FCC, RKO General, American Broadcasting Company and publishers Harcourt Brace before co-founding the law firm of Murphy & Zissu in New York City. In recent years, she served as an arbitrator in New York and Florida for the American Arbitration Association. Ms. Murphy graduated from Central Catholic High School in Fort Lauderdale and the University of Florida. She was a former newspaper reporter at the Fort Lauderdale News before attending Georgetown Law School. She was a co-author of The Businesswoman's Guide to 30 American Cities, and in 1983, she was a candidate for Civil Court judge in New York County. She was an avid scuba diver and golfer, and an adventurer who traveled the world in search of new experiences. To celebrate her 72nd birthday, she went skydiving. Ms. Murphy is predeceased by her parents, John and Clara Murphy of Fort Lauderdale. She is survived by her fiance, Eugene Schramm; a son, Jacob Zissu; a daughter-in-law, Aimee Bartol Zissu; and a granddaughter, Sascha. A memorial service will be held at the former Central Catholic High School (now St. Thomas Aquinas High School) in Fort Lauderdale on July 31. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Susan J. Komen Race for the Cure or St. Baldrick's Cancer Foundation.

Pat was able to light up a room by walking into it. She displayed an unbeatable sense of humor, and was never at a loss for words; boy could she think fast on her feet. What a wit, what a brain. I greatly miss her already. I'm very sad.
