Richard Mohler Obituary

MOHLER, RICHARD ALBERT, Sr. of Deerfield Beach, FL, died Monday, March 18, 2013. Beloved as husband, father, grandfather, and friend, he was recently honored as "Deacon for Life" at the First Baptist Church of Pompano Beach, where he had been a faithful member, deacon, and leader since 1972. Dick Mohler was a long-time store manager for Publix Supermarkets and he touched lives wherever he served. For decades he served as a Sunday School teacher, mentoring middle school youth and being a friend to all. He was a faithful father, a loving husband, a compassionate grandfather, and cheerful servant of Christ. His Christian witness was known to all, as was his genuine affection for all people. "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints." Psalm 116:15. A native of Plant City, Florida, he was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Dorothy Mohler. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet Johnson Mohler of Deerfield Beach, and by four children, Richard Albert (Mary) Mohler, Jr. of Louisville, KY, Jan Mohler Knight of Ft. Lauderdale, Lee (Chrissy) Mohler of Boynton Beach, and Mark (Marlisa) Mohler of Melbourne. He is survived by his brother, Bob (Ann) Mohler of Plant City. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Katie Mohler, Christopher Mohler, Joey Knight, Matthew Mohler, Jordyn Mohler, Lauren Mohler, and Kaylie Mohler. The family will receive friends on Wednesday (today) from 5-8pm at the First Baptist Church of Pompano Beach. The funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, also at the church, with visitation beginning at 10am. Interment will follow in Deerfield Beach Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to: KRAEER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, 200 N Federal Highway, Pompano Beach, FL 33062 (954) 941-4111. www.kraeerpompanobeach.net

As a missionary in Asia, I find motivation and inspiration through the legacies and stories of men and women who, throughout all of their lives, served the Lord and His people. Mr. Mohler is one of them. Thank you for inspiring many, including me. Blessings to his family. Glory be to God.

Dr Al Mohler, Mary, and their children have enriched our lives in so many ways. It is not surprising that Richard Mohler is described with words like faithful, leader, mentoring, loving, compassionate and cheerful servant of Christ. The fruit of his character is passed unto his children and grandchildren. So many times, the only thing that lives on is that which we impart into the lives of others. He cannot be replaced but loving memories will live on. John and I extend our sympathy. Dr. John and Sharon Shaw

Dear Mohler Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with your family during your time of loss. Mr. Mohler was such a gentle, but powerful influence on so many young people at First Baptist Church and Publix. I often still think of Mr. Mohler and how he told my father that I was one of the fastest cashiers that he had, but I talked as fast as my hands scanned groceries! However, he taught me so much about the value of working honestly and excellent customer service. He will be remembered and cherished by many. My mother, Ann Baughman, also sends her love and prayers.

As I think of the testimony & legacy that Dick Mohler has left us, I am reminded of what Timothy wrote as recorded in II Timothy 4:7-8. Today, it is our job to carry on and continue to build on the foundation that was very evident in his life, and that foundation is the Chief Cornerstone, Jesus Christ. His smile and kind words will always be remembered.

I did not know your dad personally only knew him through you. He must have been a terrific man and he surely taught you well. Reading all the entries I am sorry I did not get to know him.
I truly am sorry for your loss. I pray that your pain is less through all the great memories that your family has.
Now he is with God and happy as can be.
Yours in Christ

The words "well done, thou good and faithful servant" apply to this man's life. He was a constant source of wisdom and goodness, always ready to share his Christian testimony. He was a man who touched so many lives through his selfless service to others. Dick Mohler was a devoted Christ-follower who will be missed greatly by all of us who knew him.

Your dad was always a gracious loving man that saw potential and depth in the lives of those around him. I worked for him at Publix as a high school student. He was truely a man of God that lived out daily his faith and love for the Lord.

Dick Mohler made a huge impact on our family, teaching both of our boys' Sunday School classes during our time at Pompano Beach. It was a privilege to serve alongside a true example of a servant leader. Continued prayer for Janet and the rest of the family.

I never met Mr. Mohler, never spoke to him, and couldn't point him out if it were only him in the room. With that said, I can tell you all about him by the godly legacy he left to be carried on. Because of him and his legacy, there are hundreds if not thousands trained to preach the Word in season and out of season; because of him, their are young men and women serving our Lord throughout the world; because of him, the Southern Baptist Convention has a world renowned seminary that is the flagship of all its seminaries, led by his son. Thank you Mr. Mohler for leaving so much for so many with so much yet to do. I look forward to meeting you in heaven.

Gods grace and his faithfulness to Christ is encouraging and like so many saints, still speaks even though they "fall asleep."
May you all seek heaven and its Savior like him.

To the Mohler Family,

Dick was and is truly a special man. He has influenced so many lives for Christ. Families move to different locations, but they never forget the foundation and love he poured into the kids of FBC Pompano. I know of it personally and I see it in postings all over Facebook. And Janet, I wish I were there to give you a hug. And Jan, I know you'll be there for mom. And Al, Jr., I wish I were there to be with all those in South Florida that are sharing this time with you. I'm praying for you all for strength to walk through these next few days. Our family loves you.

Dear Mohler Family,
So many memories. My family has considered you as family friends for what must be close to 40 years. Mr. Mohler was my first boss when I was a bagboy at Publix back in the 70's. I always admired his wisdom and would not hesitate to go to him for advice even after I became an adult. The thing I will remember most about him was the great example he set as a family man. I honestly believe he was one of the greatest Christian men that I have met in my lifetime. Thank you for allowing him to minister to so many people. He will be missed.
