Robin Smollar Obituary

January 9, 1956 – August 30, 2019

Robin passed away peacefully and unexpectedly in her sleep on August 30, 2019, at her home in Delray Beach, Florida.

A memorial in celebration of Robin's life will be held at the Delray Beach Club, 20001 S. Ocean Blvd, Delray Beach on September 25th from 6 to 9 PM. Hopefully, you will join in remembering her gift of life to us.

Robin was born January 9, 1956, in St. Louis and raised in Jacksonville, IL, Robin was the third of four children to Donald and Jane Atkins. She was my beloved wife for more than 23 years, stepmother to Justin (Leigh) and Jeremy (Erica), grandmother to Ben and Zoe, and sister to Tom Atkins (Jana), Terri Febuary (Richard), and Margaret Cranston (Michael). Everyone who knew Robin loved her as amazing, beautiful, talented, deliciously eccentric, funny, smart, passionate, irascible and loving. She was a gift to all of us who knew and loved her.

Robin was a talented and versatile artist working in oil, mixed media and iconography. Many of her works were bought by her friends who connected with her imagery.

Learning was also an important part of Robin's life. In 1992 Robin returned to college to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL and continued as a supporter of the school for the rest of her life.

In 1995 Robin and Marvin moved to South Florida and quickly settled into our home where she also hosted out wedding ceremony for more than 80 guests. With her vivacious personality, Robin was instrumental in making us members of the vibrant social and philanthropic scenes. An enthusiastic participant in fundraising events, Robin was a brilliant hostess, famous for her lavishly decorated and creatively original fundraisers and social events. Her gifts benefited the Boca Raton Museum of Art, Habitat for Humanity and the Women in Visual Arts (WITVA). She was also an ardent animal lover, especially for her two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels Bradley & Romeo.

Robin's bright light and zest for life were on display every day to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.

Robin was laid to rest in Jacksonville, IL, per her request on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the Diamond Grove Cemetery, 1601 Lincoln Ave., Jacksonville, IL.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, any one caring to make a donation is asked to make it in her memory to the American Cancer Society and/or the American Heart Association.
