Rose Pick

On Thursday, April 20, 2017, Rose Pick of Chevy Chase MD (formerly of Pompano Beach FL and Metuchen NJ) from complications of Alzheimer's. Beloved wife for 73 years of the late Rudolph Pick, devoted mother of Kathryn Pick, London England, Susan Dubas (Barry Shanoff), Arlington VA and Elaine (Eric) Farkas, Creve Coeur MO. Cherished grandmother of Paul Dubas and Andrew, Zachary and Joshua Farkas. Rose's parents, Arnold and Julia Juskovits and siblings, Blanka and Eugene Juskovits were victims of the Holocaust. Dear siblings, the late Charlotte Sax (Los Angeles CA) and late Etta Ungvari (Bat Yam Israel). She was blessed to have many devoted caregivers including Happy Anthony, Massah Karimu and Isha Bangura and the 2nd floor team from Brighton Gardens, Friendship Heights. Rose was born on Sept. 11, 1918 in Lochovo Czechoslovakia (now Ukraine). After completing a rigorous high school, she attended medical school at Charles University in Prague until she was forced to abandon her studies due to the implementation of Nazi rules in 1938. She emigrated to London England in early 1939. It was there that she met her husband at a social for Czech refugees; they married in 1940. Returning to Prague CZ after the war, Rose and her family tried to resume normal lives. Following the Communist invasion in 1948, she was imprisoned as a political prisoner and eventually freed. She returned to England and finally emigrated to the USA in 1953 with her family. Rose loved to learn and Rudy taught her how to play bridge; she excelled becoming a diamond life master and club director. Her science background and facility with many languages led to a successful career as a technical translator until retiring at age 88. She was always active enjoying outdoor activities especially her daily walk. Funeral will be held on Monday, April 24 at 10 AM Temple Rodef Shalom, Falls Church VA immediately followed by interment at King David Memorial Gardens, Arlington VA. Shiva will be observed Monday and Tuesday and the home of Susan Dubas, Arlington VA. Additionally, shiva will be observed at the home of Elaine and Eric Farkas of Creve Coeur MO from Tuesday, April 25 until Sunday, April 30 in the morning. Contributions may be made to Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA), the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice.
