Rowland Schaefer

Schaefer, Rowland. The worldwide family of the Weizmann Institute of Science deeply mourns the passing of Rowland Schaefer, an indefatigable advocate, esteemed leader, and cherished friend. Rowland's visionary guidance inspired supporters in his Florida community and across the country. A former Chairman of the South Florida Region, Rowland served as a member of the Institute's International Board of Directors and the American Committee's National Board of Directors. He received an Honorary Doctorate from the Weizmann Institute and was a member of the President's Circle, representing its highest level of philanthropic support. His many gifts with late wife Sylvia over the years included the Rowland and Sylvia Schaefer Solar Research Complex, the Rowland and Sylvia Schaefer Professorial Chair, the Rowland and Sylvia Schaefer Career Development Chair, and the Rowland and Sylvia Schaefer Fund for Diabetes Research. Rowland will always be remembered for his profound generosity, ingenuity, and kindness. We extend heartfelt condolences to his daughters, Marla, Bonnie, and Roberta; his eight grandchildren; and his five great grandchildren. May Rowland's memory be for a blessing. Lawrence S.
