Ruth Notowitz Obituary

Notowitz , Ruth Pokres, 90 of Miami Beach, passed away in her home Tuesday, December 12, 2006. Ruth Notowitz came to Miami Beach from her hometown of St. Louis in 1956 where she and husband Paul (predeceased) founded a real estate development company. They named the company Scott Estate Homes, for her youngest son, Scott Notowitz. When her eldest son, Bart, died of a heart attack at the age of 36 in 1978, Ruth and her husband sought ways to keep their son's memory alive. In 1979, they and Bart's closest and loving friends donated a sculpture to the Miami Beach Theater of the Performing Arts. In 1986, the family donated the Bart Notowitz Fitness Center at the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center in North Miami Beach. Bart was the love of their lives and a shining star forever. Ruth Notowitz had long-standing interests in world travel, fashion, the arts, and the Miami Beach Garden Club. She was a long-time member of Temple Beth Sholom and a Founder at Mount Sinai Hospital. Her family was her passion. Her love and generosity for her mother, sisters, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and her all consuming thoughts of their happiness and well being will be remembered as her legacy; and what a beautiful and sweet memory that is. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Judy and husband Barry Kutun of Miami Beach; her son, Scott Notowitz and his wife, Shari of Boca Raton; her grandchildren, Sheryl and Larry Kutun and his wife, Danielle; Brandon and Bryan Notowitz; Stephanie Spiegelman and Gregory Notowitz; her great-grandchildren, Dylan, Jordan and Makenna Kutun. Donations may be made in memory of Ruth Notowitz to: UM Sylvester Cancer Center, P.O. Box 016960 (M867), Miami, FL 33101.
