Walter Cornnell Obituary

Walter A. Cornnell, of Boca Raton, age 93 ½, born June 11, 1923, passed away on January 16, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Alice O'Connor Cornnell, his sister: Norma Day of Maryland, and his 14 children: Carol Hudson (Geoff), Walter A. Cornnell (Lorraine), Kathy Lanzner (John), Patricia Aldousany (Wahab), Kevin Cornnell (Marcia), Brian Cornnell (Patricia), Michael Cornnell (Pam), Grace Bomarito, Christopher Cornnell, Timothy Cornnell (Theresa), Molly Cornnell, James Cornnell (Jen), Sean Cornnell, Kelly Coletto, twenty six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Beulah, twin brother George and sister Ellner Menke. He was born and raised in Washington D.C. He served in the Army during World War II, building airfields in the South Pacific. After the war, he married, started a family and earned a degree in Civil Engineering from George Washington University. Walter and Alice moved the family to Florida in the late fifties. In 1968, he started his own consulting engineering firm and had a successful business for more than 40 years. He was a loving and dedicated father who encouraged and taught by example. Many of his children and grandchildren have advanced degrees and are productive in their own right. Walter and Alice were longtime members of St. Joan of Arc and Ascension Catholic Churches. He was an avid reader, skilled gardener (particularly orchids), talented problem solver and excelled at home repair. His dedication to his family, willingness to help others, and sense of humor will be missed. A gathering of family and friends will take place Thursday, January 19, at Glick Family Funeral Home from 5-7pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 20 at 9:30am at St Joan of Arc Catholic church in Boca Raton, FL.

The Cornnells were like family to me when I first moved to Florida, Chris was a great friend, and Mr. Cornnell hired me to work part time in the family Land Surveying company. To this day I use many skills I learned from him. On a rare occasion Mr. "C" would tell me stories of when he was in the Philippines with the Sea Bees, not all bad to be sure. : )
"Daddy Square" I think of you often and will miss you greatly.
