William Zenga Obituary

William Thomas Zenga, 61, of Ft Lauderdale, FL, passed away on October 2, 2016. He was born on April 15,1955 and was raised in New Jersey. He went to Rutgers University and received a Bachelors in Engineering, where he also swam and dove as an honors athlete. Then he went to the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He moved to South Florida for a residency, and continued to practice dentistry for 35 years. Not only did he go on to own his own practice, he continued his swimming career by waking up every morning at 5:00am to swim at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex as a Masters swimmer. "When you pass on, it doesn't mean you lost, you win by how you lived your life." William Thomas Zenga exemplified this quote every single day of his life. He never settled for second and always wanted to be the best. The best father, the best swimmer, the best triathlete, the best dentist, the best antique collector, and the best friend to two ex-wives, who to this day still care and love him deeply, and were by his side together until the very end. If you knew Bill, you knew that he was one of the most interesting people you will ever come in contact with. It seemed that everywhere he went he knew someone and lit up the room. If you did not know him well, that wouldn't have lasted long, because he would have sparked a conversation with you and connected in ways you would not think. He was extraordinary in so many ways. He was gifted in so many ways. If you ever needed a helping hand, he was the first person there to get the job done. He basically knew how to do it all, whether it was landscaping, building a deck or a sidewalk; he was not going to call anyone, he always figured out how to do everything and fix everything. Also, if you ever needed help putting up Christmas lights, you could go to him for advice, because he was "that house" that won every year he decorated for the Winterfest Boat Parade. He leaves behind three children, Lindsay Zenga, William Zenga Jr, and Domenic Zenga, his dog Hercules, two Smokin' hot ex-wives, and every single person he touched during his life. Whether you knew him as Billy, William, Bill, Dr. Z, or that charismatic Italian you met briefly during your life, he lives on through all of us. Visitation will be Thurs, Oct 6 from 4-8pm at Kraeer Fairchild Funeral Home, Ft Lauderdale. Funeral Service will be Fri, Oct 7 at 12pm at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, N Lauderdale. In lieu of flowers, please remember him with a donation to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be offered at www.KraeerFairchild.com.

We were so sorry to hear about the loss of Bill Zenga. We knew Billy from his Perth Amboy and Parlin YMCA days. We have very fond memories as fellow swimmers, divers and part of the YMCA leadership group along with his brother Jack. He was a unique goal-oriented teenager and obviously an amazing adult. We are so sorry we did not get to know the man he became. Our deepest sympathies are with his family at this time.

Bill and I were hall mates (Demarest I think) back at Rutgers in the 70's. Even back then he was super friendly and we helped each other in the computer and design lab course homework while listening to Rick Wakeman throughout the building. May you forever enjoy the endless pools of heaven.

Today, we heard of Dr Zengas Passing, I am shocked, my wife and I went to Dr Zenga for the last 11 years, for me he was the best dentist, honest and hard working. Dr Zenga always treated us with care and respect and did everything possible to aliviate pain and save our teeth.
He was ingenious, looking for ways to save patients teeth and money, disregarding the easy current trend of replacing the existing with new, if it was repeatable, Dr Zenga would rather repair than replace.
He never asked to be paid before work was done and alway tried to work with your financial situation. I always knew I could count with Dr Zenga.
Our thoughts for Shawn and family

I went to Dr. Zenga for over 30 years and I am totally shocked at hearing about his passing. I am at a loss for words. He will be sorely missed. My condolences got out to his family. RIP Dr. Zenga.

January 19, 2017

My very elderly mother and I used Dr. Zenga for many, many years. He was the only dentist for us. He treated us like gold, so caring toward the elderly, so compassionate with those who do not have much money. As an electrical engineer, he devised GENIUS ways to preserve teeth and keep us comfortable and happy. Always, ALWAYS there for the emergency, always easing our pain, emotionally and physically. I don't know what we will do without him. I can't get over this. Dr. Zenga, we LOVED YOU, RE and VE LOVED you so much, respected you and are devastated. Please, rest in peace, you dear, wonderful man, dentist, a beloved person. VE and RE will always think of you & will continue to go to your office. We love you Dr. Zenga, RE and VE will never get over this loss. Love forever from your mother/daughter patients, RE & VE from Plantation.

This raw cold news of Billy's passing is shocking - truly unthinkable. I am so sorry for your loss.

Billy and I met in summer of 1981 - he had just moved to Miami. He was a stunning creation, gifted and capable person, able to figure out how all things pieced together and how they worked. He had big dreams and knew how to plan and create, he made his dreams come to fruition. He was passionate in his beliefs. Through the years people come and go, few leave such indelible memories.

My deepest condolences to the entire Zenga family - children, spouses, brothers Jimmy and Jackie. My heart is breaking with yours, I cry your tears.

Rest in peace dear soul - I surely thought you would live forever. My prayer is that you did not suffer.

With love,
Carol Ricci

I am so sad to hear of this loss. I started going to him when he was first practicing in 1984. He took all the employees from American Express and Motorola. He loved his family and always took an interest in my family. This was so sudden but I am happy to see his son follow in his footsteps. Faith Roberts

October 17, 2016

I only met him in June, 2016. I only saw him four times. Each time he offered me very personal attention and interest for my special dental challenges. I am doubly sad for his passing since I was to begin my special William T. Zenga restorative dental program October, 2016. He was referred by my Orthodontist as the best Dentist. I am very fortunate I was able to at least meet him a few times before I would lose the opportunity to ever know him. I will miss him. Thank you very much for the amazing photographs of the timeline of his lifetime. Seeing him back in New Jersey as a very young guy and then his graduation from college and all of his swimming and diving activities and his so very attractive family members, I feel like I have known him for many years. I will miss him.

I can still remember sitting in the waiting room of your office as a child and being amazed at the seemingly endless number of certificates framed on the wall. It was truly a blessing to have known you and an honor to have been your patient throughout the years.

Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to the Zenga Family. In addition, our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Zenga's staff. His office is a well-oiled machine focusing on the patient first.
Dr. Zenga is the "salt of the earth", a rare breed, a researcher, inquisitive, innovative, witty, humorous, on the cutting edge, a listener, a conversationist, and above all, a mensch.
Let us honor and respect the memory of Dr. William T. Zenger by showing our broad smiles everyday.

October 8, 2016

I met Bill Zenga when he walked into the Miami VA dental clinic 36 years ago. He was calm, cool and confident, with a smile that lit up the room. He made it perfectly clear that he wanted to do his residency at the VA not JMH. Anyone who knew Bill knows he was the kind of person who, when he set his sights on a goal, he ended up getting what he wanted!

During his residency Bill made many friends, with whom he stayed in touch with through the years. I was one of those fortunate people he chose to call his "friend". We never lost touch and I was honored to attend Bill 's wedding to Stacey, to meet Lindsey when she was just a few days old and see the look on Bills face when he told me Billy passed his boards and he couldn't wait for Billy to start working with him.

As is the case with most of us, life happens and Stacey and Bill chose to go their separate ways. When Bill found Shawn he knew he had another chance for happiness and the two were married. Even though they chose to end their marriage, they still worked together in the dental office. One thing I have to say about Bill Zenga. He had the utmost love and respect for the women in his life, and I am sure they felt the same about him. I know Mae, Dale and Joey have been working with Bill many years now, and anyone working in his office was never regarded simply as an employee. He thought of them as part of his family. He extended the same kind of warmth to his many patients over the years. That's how Bill treated most people he met. He will be sorely missed.

To Bill's Family, Friends and Office Staff,

As I read the words of all the messages above it is still hard to believe it's real. Even being at the service today was unreal. What a pleasure to know him. Our family extends our deepest condolences to your family.
Somehow I have a feeling he and Ed are already talking.

My dear friend Bill, I shall miss you and our chats at all hours, I so remember the day when you first started your journey into dentistry I was one of the first.. The electric went out but you still proceeded to do the root canal. Tears rolling down my cheeks as I was so scared.. You overly confident as you were in all things helped me to overcome my fear. Smiles as I go home pain just intensifying me...returning to have you say hummm you had an extra nerve I missed. Wow I was impressed and that day bonded a friend for life and beyond. I will miss you here but the day will come we can laugh again. You shared my life came to the farm, picked your own sweet onions and together we shared many memories I cherish. Hugs and love to you always

There are no words. I was Dr. Marvin Rector's patient and was handed off to Dr. Zenga when he first started in the office. I was very unhappy as Dr. Rector was a great dentist, my dentist, and I was being pushed off to the new guy. However, this began a very close and personal friendship that has endured throughout our lives. I was one of Dr. Zenga's very first patients and I continued to see him until his passing.

Dr. Zenga was an extremely intelligent, warm hearted, salt of the earth, human being with a steel trap memory. Even after moving to Boynton Beach, I would make the 70 mile round trip journey for my appointments and never considered letting anyone else touch me. Thanks to Dr. Zenga, I have a full set of teeth and if not for him, I would have been wearing dentures long ago. The man was brilliant and such an artist. No matter how difficult or bad my situation was, Dr. Zenga worked miracles and there was nothing was beyond his abilities.

Dr. Zenga was the only dentist that my son would let work on him. My son respected him, truly loved him, and would even heed his advice even over mine. Dr. Zenga would get on him and tell him when he was messing up. He treated my son, as a son, and my son would feel very badly whenever he disappointed Dr. Zenga. When my son lived in central Florida, he would make the 560 mile round trip journey to see Dr. Zenga as he would not consider letting anyone else touch him.

On a personal note, Dr. Zenga was a true friend and has always been there for me through the lowest points in my life. He was there for me through my colon cancer and subsequent year of chemotherapy. He was devastated when my son passed due to a cancerous brain tumor. Dr. Zenga was there, caring and loving, through so many difficult times that they are too numerous and personal to go into here.

I am a professional engineer and when I heard the news of Dr. Zenga's passing, I was sitting at my desk, at work, and I cried. Dr Zenga was a truly great man and a great friend and I have not felt such sadness since I lost my son to cancer.

I offer my deepest and most profound condolences to Dr. Zenga's family as I cannot imagine their loss and heartbreak. They are blessed to be the spouses and children of such a wonderful and loving human being. I truly express my heartfelt sorrow to his children for their loss. They should take comfort in having had the privilege of being raised by such a compassionate and loving father.

Everyone should especially take comfort in the fact that Dr. Zenga is with our LORD in paradise and is receiving his rewards for all the kindness, goodness, and respect he has shown everyone throughout his generous Life. As one of God's greatest accomplishments, Dr. Zenga has truly made such a blessed difference in all the lives he touched.

If there is anything that I can do for the family, no matter how difficult or trivial, please allow me the honor and the privilege of helping. It would be a joy a kindness to allow me to do anything.

So saddened to hear of Bill's passing. He moved in across the street when we were expecting our first child. He and his family became instant friends. They welcomed us in their home and we spent many fun times over the years. There's nothing Bill wouldn't do for you...from hanging a chandelier for me to trimming my trees. Since moving north, Bill kept a watchful eye on our house. The last time we were together, he was bursting with pride as he talked about Billy passing his boards. Billy, he was so proud. We will be there in December but our corner won't be the same.

We are so saddened by the passing of our brother in law and uncle, Bill. You passed away way too early. You were an unbelievable father, brother and uncle and you will be missed but remembered in our hearts with all the wonderful memories that you shared with us. You leave a wonderful legacy to your children, Lindsay, Billy and Dominic. Rest in peace our brother and uncle. Love, Jeffrey, Mary Christine, JJ, Christopher, Carly and Murphy. Callaway too. xxxx

Bill and I were friends and colleagues for over thirty years. During his early professional career in Broward County, he and I would routinely have Friday night dinners at Mr Laff's. Later on. we continued occasional dinners and close contact often in the company of our mentor and good friend Dr. Marvin Rechter.
Bill loved the challenge of new dental techniques, home repairs, developing his ranch, researching antiques, etc. Brilliant, extreme work ethic, generous and always seeking the next challenge.
My deepest sympathy to the entire Zenga family, staff and all his many friends and admirers. We miss Bill already.
