Roy was a wonderful brother-in-law and Godly friend. He loved all kinds of activities and was rarely idle. He would gladly help anyone. He put his wife, son, grandchildren and family first. I never saw him moody except when his rabbits did not breed sucessfully at first. That problem was soon remedied with the rabbits themselves and I never saw any grumpiness the rest of the time we visited and had wonderful meals with his wife, Ann. Being teachers, we were easily able to discuss our experiences. From the comments left, Roy put his mark on the students that were fortunate to be with him. He modeled James 1-19 and was "quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger." Heaven is richer now, but everyone here will carry a large hole in their heart. I'm so glad he put his trust in Christ to give him eternal life. 1 Corinthians 15:19

Roy has a servants heart and was a kind friend. He was always upbeat and ready to lend a hand. He was a teacher who genuinely cared about his classroom students and encouraged his peers to keep learning and trying new things. It was a privilege to call him friend.

Mr. Shepherd was my third grade teacher at Poteau Primary and he was by far one of the most exceptional teachers/influential people in my life. I have fond memories of listening to him read the classics aloud which led to a love of literature, but the thing I remember most is our school play where I had a speaking part, but no costume and he made me the costume. Such a wonderful man who I know is receiving many rewards in Heaven!!

Mr. Shepherd was my third grade teacher for the 1993-1994 school year at Poteau. He was one of my favorite teachers I ever had. I always remember his warm personality. He would always read us Louis Lamar books in class. Something Im sure most teachers dont do. I soaked up every word. My condolences to his family. He was a special man who impacted SO many.

I had Mr. Shepherd in the 5th grade. That was a trying time in my young life and he made it a little easier by being an excellent teacher and mentor. I appreciate his commitment to the students he taught. We are all better for it. God bless his wife and family during this time.

I really don't have the words to describe what Mr. Shepard meant to me. He was such a wonderful teacher and a truly caring person. He helped with math facts with times table races and "A Wrinkle in Time" in the 3rd grade. I remember how excited I was to get to have him in math when he moved to 5th grade. What an inspiring person! I'm not sure I would have made it through fractions without him. He is on my Mt. Rushmore of teachers who inspired me to pursue education. Rest in Peace my friend.

I was in his last 3rd grade class in Poteau and he gave me the love of books. A Wrinkle in Time still reminds me of him. He was an amazing teacher and a caring person. He truly impacted the lives of so many kids.
