February 18, 1976 - October 8, 2021
Bobby Joe Holmes, age 45, of Pounding Mill, Virginia, passed away Friday, October 8, 2021 after a two year courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Richlands, Virginia on February 18, 1976 and was the son of he late Kenneth James and Tammy Evelyn Short Holmes.
Bobby was a devoted husband and loving father. He loved his family and hosting holidays and barbecues. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, computers, and building pretty much anything. He loved the University of Tennessee Volunteers and the San Franciso 49ers. He enjoyed sharing his faith with others and was always a shoulder to lean on for many. To know him was to love him. He loved coaching, having coached RMYL football, Richlands Little League Baseball and Softball for over 15 years. He worked at Virginian Dump Bodies from 1996 until they closed, then TDT Fabrication, and he was currently a correctional officer at VDOC Keen Mountain Prison.
Survivors are his wife of 25 years, Sabrina Holmes loving children, Brett Austin "George" Holmes and fiancée, Regan Mullins, Haley Brooke Holmes, Ryan James Holmes, Brittney Faith Holmes; sister, Tonia Holmes of Richlands, Virginia; brothers, Jackie Holmes and wife, Catrina of Richlands, Virginia, Bryon Allen Holmes of Bluefield, W.Va.; Scottie Holmes of Richlands, Virginia; father and mother-in-law, Teddy and Candice Monk; brother-in-law, Charlie Monk and wife, Lyndsey; sister-in-law, Nikke Monk. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Special thank you to Dr. Twadros, Dr. Brown, Jessica Shreve, CVMC faculty and staff, Dr. Goyt, Josh Lakey, Cody Price, Jamie Sparks, and a host of family and friends who have been so supportive during his fight.
Memorial services for Bobby Joe Holmes will be conducted Monday, October 11, 2021 at 7 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Barry Absher officiating. Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. on Monday evening.
